A thread.

So there’s a part in my new show Gender Reveal Party at the end, when we have “cake and congratulations,” and I serve cake while the audience congratulates the cast, who are all trans &/or nonbinary and have just performed work about their genders. 1/x
The audience been encouraged to use our suggested things to say when someone reveals something about their gender to you. And practice, in the brave space we’ve created.

AND THEY DO. The audience stays and snacks and practices, and so I get to talk to them. 2/x
First of all, I am loving how seriously people take it. Having been cast as guests, they don’t just bail out. They stay for cake.

But second, because I get to talk to them, I can see that they are so moved, so grateful. They say thank you so tenderly. 4/x
To see a bunch of trans and nonbinary people speaking kindly and lovingly about ourselves, to cheers and applause, for thirty minutes is revolutionary. It is healing. And everyone, cis and trans, who has been with us has seen it.

Can’t ask for more than that in a day.
Since this thread is getting a bunch of attention again, just a note that this trans/nb-loving show is meant to travel and could be made w a local cast in your very own city/university/theatre (when travel and theatre happen again)! DM me if you want to talk about it.
