THREAD: EDM artists as astrological signs (my two loves).

DISCLAIMER: i did my selection based primarily off of music style but also incorporated the artists themselves. i also chose artists i am familiar w/ and have seen perform, as well as stuck w/ more mainstream artists so that people could relate to them more. enjoy

ARIES • RUSKO
The child(first sign) of the zodiac is Aries, a cardinal fire sign embodying innovation, bravery, assertiveness, and enthusiasm when developed; and aggression, impatience, impulsivity, and domineering when underdeveloped.

Rusko is an artist that has been around for a while and has been a pioneer in electronic music, carving the way for many to follow just as Aries, a natural born leader of the zodiac. His music infectious w an undeniable presence & his childlike silliness embodies Aries well.

Much like the fire sign, his music is effortlessly powerful, memorable, and innovative. Usually heavier dubstep and DnB that has blazed the trail for many other artists just as Aries initiates identity action. Astrological affirmation: “I am”.

TAURUS • TIPPER
Cathartic, spiritual, earthy, and magnetic; the earth side of Venusian energy shines through his utilization of and precise attention to often elaborate/ornate visuals as well as deliberate sound design and consistent, recognizable music.

As a fixed earth sign, Taurus exemplifies steadfastness, resourcefulness, and is attributed to artistry, aesthetics, and the beauty of nature. Tipper’s music uses many organic sounds and has an enduring, unmistakable signature to it.

Downtempo sets are laidback and uptempo sets can surprise you; much like the Bull’s peaceful easy-going nature, Taurus always has the capacity for admirable self determination and at times an explosive temper. Astrological affirmation: “I have”.

GEMINI • GRiZ
This one was tough folks, but when I thought about which artist would fit Gemini most, GRiZ kept coming to mind. Optimistic, curious, dynamic, and multifaceted; GRiZ himself as well as his music emanates the energy of this mutable air sign.

GRiZ’s discography is extremely versatile; ranging from funk, house, dubstep, and downtempo. His ability to mix live as well as play multiple instruments demonstrates the intelligent, “jack-of-all trades” quality of Gemini. He has a generous, sociable, and lighthearted presence..

The rhetoric of Gemini being “two-faced” is merely a blanket excuse for those who fail to understand the adaptable, communicative, & versatile nature of Mercury-ruled Gem.Although capable of being superficial/flighty, Gem is incredibly sharp&socially aware.

CANCER • FLUME
Sentimental, fluid, vulnerable, and experimental yet easily distinguished with a sound unique to him; I see these traits parallel Cancer, the cardinal water sign of the zodiac. Ruled by the Moon, Cancer is receptive and emotional, much like a lot of Flume’s music.

Soft, nostalgic, & feeling, his older music pulls emotion just as the moon pulls the tides. However soft tho, the crab has ARMOR. Cancer has powerful sustaining & protective instincts. His pairing of delicate vocals w harsher rap/rap beats in newer projects showcases this side.

The artistry and sentiment in his music is profound and it evokes a similar reaction in his audience (at least for me) creating a heavy sense of memory an longing for the past. This mimics the collecting, receptive quality of Cancer.

LEO • Dillon Francis
Here me out on this one, when i thought of Leo a lot of artists who embody undeveloped traits came to mind but I didn’t wanna do my lovely Leos like that. Outgoing, bold, confident, and puts on quite the show; Dillon is the Leo of the edm world to me.

Ruled by the Sun, the fixed fire sign embodies radiant warmth, confidence, and creativity. Dillon’s use of bright, colorful, and dramatic visuals paired w fiery moombahton, electro house, and sometimes dubstep & trap music radiates this signs bold energy. Sometimes over the top..

but by any means always ENTERTAINING. His presence both on stage and on social media is showy, creative, and performing; radiating confidence and warm expressiveness much like striking Leo. Affirmation: “I show”.

VIRGO • REZZ
Originally I thought of Scorpio in relation to Rezz, but as I analyzed it a little closer I saw a lot of Virgo in her music/presence (virgo&scorpio used to be the same sign, hence ♍︎+♏︎) so it makes sense. The attention to detail in her music mimics Virgo energy

Downtempo,techno or new beat; her intricate, layered music w timing that is precise+purposeful embodies ♍︎ well.♍︎ is the mutable earth manifestation of mercurial energy tied w service,analytical thinking, &discernment. Hard working and meticulous, she has exacting ♍︎ skill

♍︎ is also tied w health, her ongoing bit encouraging everyone to drink water screams Virgo to me. Her music prompts introspection, thought, & attention to the world around us and her rapid rise to success embodies the admirable earth sign work ethic. Affirmation:“I analyze”

LIBRA • ODESZA
Ethereal, beautiful, & melodic; the qualities of Libra shine through Odesza’s music to me. Libra is the air manifestation of Venus; the ruler of beauty, values, aesthetics, and love. Odesza’s music takes on similar traits both through their performances and music.

Dreamy indie-electronic, chillwave, and future bass style emits a beautiful and harmonious energy. Just as ♎︎ represents beauty and balance, Odesza’s discography and aesthetic live performances highlights the artistic & refined nature of the cardinal air sign.

Their music evokes feelings of personability and is reminiscent of the beauty & love of close relationships, both past and present. Libra, represented by the scales, rules balance in partnerships and the beauty of cooperation/harmony. Affirmation: “I relate” ♎︎

SCORPIO • ZEDS DEAD
Alright this one was difficult not to be biased on, but my opinion stands. Transformative, magnetic, powerful, and intense; Zeds Dead’s dynamic and probing musical ability creates a discography and performance that parallels the fixed water sign of Scorpio

Ranging from dubstep, house, DnB, and more ZD’s complex & dynamic ability mirrors Scorpio. Their signature dark, heavy bass is unmistakeable & penetrating, just as the Mars-ruled fixed sign. A symbol of regeneration through death&rebirth; their music is both powerful & healing.

Although their music is usually heavier, heavily emotional/dark lyrics are often utilized. Scorpio has a tough exterior, but beneath lies cathartic & deep seated emotion/intuition gifted to water signs. Their slower songs especially evoke this quality (*cough* Dimemories)

Undeveloped, Scorpio can be vengeful &destructive (*cough*Out For Blood aka scorpio anthem) but this energy applied skillfully is powerful, complex, & enigmatic, capable of dynamic &necessary regeneration; all qualities I see in Zeds Dead’s music. Affirmation: “I transform” ♏︎

SAGITTARIUS • GRAMATIK
As a sag myself I found this one difficult bc our sign has historically been done dirty due to misunderstanding, BUT WE DESERVE BETTER. & what better than the man Denis himself. I see so many similarities between his music/him as an artist and Sagittarius.

Musically diverse from funk, trip hop, electronic, & hip hop using 20’s jazz & soul samples layered w/ heavy bass or smooth synths, his music embodies the dynamic and optimistic nature of the Jupiter-ruled fire sign; complex yet buoyant, adventurous, and truth-seeking. FREE.

Sag, ruled by Jupiter as a universal/mutable fire sign, is concerned w broadening the horizons of your mind&the world around you. Sag energy emphasizes wisdom & exploration thru travel & learning. Gramatik represents these ideas! *cough* cue War of the Currents “LEARN BOUT SMTHN”

Gramatik hailing from Slovenia, building his career, making his own CRYPTOCURRENCY, & is now based in bustling NYC embodies Sag worldliness & wit. While incredibly wise, is also able to step back & laugh at themselves. Sagittarian bluntness & humor is unmatched in the zodiac.

CAPRICORN • DEADMAU5
Electronic, techno, progressive house, trance, and most notably; an impeccable reputation in the music industry that he unapologetically graces. Deadmau5 is the ultimate manifestation of disciplined, ambitious Capricorn in the electronic world.

Deadmau5’s career started in the early 1990’s from which he has built an extremely successful legacy. As one of the highest paid producers w 6 Grammy award nominations, time-transcending tracks, &his own label Mau5Trap; Joel embodies the systemic hardworking climb of the goat

Capricorn is the cardinal (action oriented) earth sign of the zodiac, ruled by Saturn (discipline & karma). When developed, Cap’s pragmatic & industrious nature makes them UNSTOPPABLE, & is shown in Deadmau5 meticulous mastery of technical music elements & immaculate production.

Undeveloped can be pessimistic & Machiavellian. Mau5’s (sometimes controversial) internet presence is often interpreted this way, but Cap has a notoriously dry sense of humor & wit. Cap may be hard on you, but never as hard as they are on themselves. hug them.

AQUARIUS • BASSNECTAR
This one was almost too obvious to me. As one of the most innovative artists in the industry he has almost cultivated a genre of his own. Activist, unique, & a devoted community following; Bassnectar perpetuates the archetype of the fixed air sign ♒︎

Aquarius is the diurnal expression of Saturn & is tied to eccentricity, humanitarianism, & progressive reform. Bassnectar has always had a unique & deliberate way of creating music & curating events w/ a strong sense of social change/ altruism woven into all that he represents.

Modern astrology ties to Uranus, the planet of revolution, as well as traditional ties to the 11th house (collective group involvement & social causes). As the universal air sign of the zodiac, these themes are expressed at a broad scale w a fierce emphasis on intellectuality.

Bassnectar’s music parallels these themes by consistently advocating for expansion of intellect/innovation, love for society & an outspoken push for progressive change for the common good. Like Aquarius, his musical career is inventive & humanitarian, a free-thinker.

Last but certainly not least, the sign/artist alignment that inspired me to make this thread: Porter Robinson’s musical/artistic ability invokes a profound emotional response & themes of empathy and the collective conscious mirror the Pisces archetype.

Pisces-the nocturnal expression of Jupiter & is tied to dreams, vision, & immense compassion; expansion of the mind & in-tune to collective emotion. It’s modern rulership is Neptune, which can suggest other undeveloped traits like lack of boundaries, disillusionment, & escapism.

Porter’s Worlds tour comes to mind, w images of dreamscapes and people transcending reality to a brighter & idealistic place. His music emphasizes empathy & intuition to emotion & the collective state of society. To look deeper than one’s own perspective. (my own photo :’) hehe)

Hyper sensitive to the emotions of those in their lives; harm, pain, & mistreatment of others/themselves pools in the mind of Pisces. If the diurnal expression of Jupiter is expansion of the external, the nocturnal expression is expansion through the depths of the mind.

With this depth comes a natural proclivity towards artistic/literary expression. Porter excels in this not only through his music but in his highly involved, all encompassing, multi-media artistry. His music is not just a song to listen to, it’s a story of the human condition.
