Dwand Yuddh is not new to India. centuries it has been in practice. Malla yuddha takes place in Akharas, where training is given to Pehelwans. Hanuman is prime deity. few types of yuddh Kusti is taught.
said to be Jarasandha's Akhara at Rajgir Bihar(earlier Magadh) archeological
Jetti or jatti community, belonged to Gujarat, migrated in Mysore too. Modha Bardai Brahmin. jyestimalla? expert in Vajra Mushti under patronage of Mysore royals. first literary mention of vajra-musti comes from Manasollasa of Chalukya king Someswara III
Indian martial Arts
form of Vajra Mushti, used in fighting malla yudh? used by Jetti wrestlers
Mysore
now vajra mushti fights held annually at Mysore palace.
royal patronage kept alive many of such Indian martial arts.
a form of malla yuddh
a painting showing Malaga chetti
jetti or jatti wrestlers fighting with a chakra type of weapon, may be it is Vajra Mushti, potronaged by Mysore royals
Art of Vajra Mushti is learned under guidance of Guru. our traditional Indian martial Arts are passed down from generation to gen. now face extinction. royal houses depend on many such Arts-fighting skills. used for self defence and/or attacking enemy. Jetti community r experts
a weapon used by soldiers, now famous through Maratha Chatrapati Shiva ji maharaj. Bagh nakha- tiger claw. here is a version of that, but with a dagger. i think it is also a form of Vajra Musthi? mutli purpose weapon can i say?
Do we have any museum? on Indian Martial Arts???
i found this picture.
Vajra Mushti is here? thus it was famous Indian Martial Art among all faiths as form of self defence. Many of our marital arts have faded with time and invaders rule.

Buddhist monks?
kalaripayattu is another famous Indian martial art prevalent in Kerala & Tamil Nadu in recent years it was taken as performing art & performed on stage too. But it has great tradition spanning centuries.
rigorous training is given to students by Guru on pressure points of body .
even lathi or bamboo stick has been used since centuries in Indian martial arts as form of self defence. in South India silamban or Silambam is used.
recent training of lathi was in news? why, i dont know? it martial arts in India has long history. due to westernization it faded
Chakram or Chakkar
earlier in thread a circular Vajra mushti i shared, but it is chakra much used by Sikh warriors Nihnags, as this painting depicts. when a smaller version, it is worn in arms or held in palm. chakrani
Indian martial arts really need documentation. its heritage?
i saw Thang Ta of Manipur many times. performed on stage. though it is Indian Martial art of Manipur an excellent form for self defence used in earlier times. people know it more as stage item. actually requires training discipline. Great Ratan Thiyam ji 🙏 has used it in theatre
a pic i found it reminded of Rani Jhansi Laxmibai. She had a group of women trained in Indian martial arts. this is mardani khela, somewhere in MP or Maharashtra? several weapons are used. through it she ensured women participation in state affairs-security. She was trend setter
in Manipur too i saw women-girls performing Thang Ta, requiring physical endurance. they did it with energy. there it had long history. thus i kept it here in Indian martial art thread.
lathi as i shared earlier is famous all over India, bamboo or lathi available easily thus was used as self defence also later incorporated as Indian martial art. regional form of training too started due to patronage by land lords as their instrument of enforcement of authority.
valour of sikh is known all over. few such Indian martial arts too are alive due their tradition of training in these martial arts. Khatka- talwar, lathi etc were used. Annual festivals & competitions are held-thus promote these arts
Urumi-long sword or Talwar made of flexible steel
one of most amazing weapon used in Martial arts of India. 30 years back i saw in @DDNational few films too had it.
i read in ACK Velu thampi story also

via @YouTube
Urumi as they call it, but it is long Talwar -Sword tied around waist, difficult to learn. years of training under Guru was required. Only few were able to use this weapon.
can i call it as Indian martial Art
an beautifull example of that so called Urumi- long Talwar- sword. flexible steel weapon used since centuries in India. now faded away as not much needed after Independence. no land lord requires it, rule of law is there.
jatti was added because she was daughter of a wrestler, jetti or chetti or jatti, got patronage in Mysore. she learned Music & Dance. she is credited the founder of Mysore Bani of Bharat Natyam? https://twitter.com/kamlesm/status/1160248070073769984?s=20
never thought that just a name of weapon can be title of any film?
our film makers are brilliant.
Urumi a Malyalam film, Tamil & remade in Hindi too
Paika khanda. Said to b originated from padatik or prahari. pahari-warriors were expert in this sword fight called khanda. Paika community revolted against British in 1817. Later in peace time art dwindled. Few revived as physical exercise in alhadas. Now martial art is a dance?
Paika khanda is now famous art form in Odisha. Originally a martial art & used in defence or protection of kingdoms during fights. During British rule internal fights between kingdoms vanished. Thus these martial arts too faded in popularity or professions. Pahari dhenkiya? Etc
