πŸ“– Korean self-study tips and materials ✏
[THREAD]

to start off you need to
▫️love the language
▫️find motivation
▫️enjoy the process of learning

Disclaimer: I am not fluent and I'm currently studying for TOPIK exam. I hope these tips and materials will help you too 😘
1. Korean alphabet

I think this is self-explanatory. You have to study ν•œκΈ€ if you are a beginner. There are a lot of materials and youtube videos which can help you with this. Practice the sounds by listening to natives.

here is a worksheet I used https://drive.google.com/file/d/1-5YLcq4mpU1EWrBJ_2U9PCQ8KEB61b5G/view?usp=drivesdk
2. Korean Grammar

It is quite complicated and different from English. But don't be scared, there is nothing impossible.πŸ’‘Tip: learn a grammar form and write your own sentences, use Hello Talk for checking whether they are right.

4. YouTube ▢️

some channels I found very useful
▢️ Talk To Me In Korean
▢️ MasterTOPIK
▢️ Learn Korean with GO! Billy Korean
▢️ Conversational Korean

πŸ’‘watch vlogs that have Korean subtitles, write down the words/phrases you don't know.
πŸ’‘pay attention to pronunciation
Korean Vloggers πŸ‘‡πŸ»

these are my favorite vloggers I enjoy watching. I am sure you can find the one for you as well ☺️

5. Vocabulary πŸ“œ

πŸ’‘ categorize! start off with your house, learn all the words for different objects that surround you i.e TV, shelf, bed, etc. once you learn that category move on to your family, hobby, sports, etc.
πŸ’‘ practice, practice, practice! use them in your speech
Song lyrics 🎢

πŸ’‘ write down the lyrics of your favorite Korean songs, translate and learn the words you don't know. It is again a good method to enrich your vocab! I mean who doesn't want to be able to sing along?🎢🎢🎢
Short Stories πŸ“„

there are some short stories you can read out loud, translate and retell.

πŸ’‘ memorize some good sentences or phases. it's all about memorizing πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ
πŸ’‘ try not to translate everything, stick to Korean more

extra tips:

πŸ’‘ sometimes not everything will make sense. don't give up! Try to memorize it and move on. Believe me later, you'll use it naturally in your speech
πŸ’‘ surround yourself with Korean as much as you can i.e. change your phone language to Korean
πŸ’‘ learn about the Korean culture! Language and culture are connected! You'll find things that are maybe different from your own culture the impact of which you'll see on the language as well i.e. formality, respect etc.
πŸ’‘ Korean verb conjugation

at first you'll find it very intimidating but it's not that complicated at all! learn about the difference of μ‘΄λŒ“λ§ and 반말, about how and with whom to use them! watch videos on YT ☺️

7. Speaking πŸ“’

this is perhaps the hardest point. But no worries.

▫️if you have Korean friends talk with them! you're really lucky! practice your knowledge.
▫️film yourself while talking
▫️talk to yourself out loud

talk, talk, talk πŸ—£πŸ”Š
and....πŸ₯πŸ₯πŸ₯

in the end I want to remind you

πŸ’«nothing is impossible! You can do it, just like others could do it. It's all about enjoying the process, learning should be fun!
πŸ’«try to stay motivated and don't lose your perseverance.
πŸ’« it takes time. one step at a time
πŸ’« if there are any questions, you can always DM me. I am by no means a fluent Korean speaker, but we are getting there 😏 let's never stop believing in ourselves.
