Still hoping it meets the intended result. Anything to help mental health is critical especially given the damage social media's design has done to people's mind.
The gamification of social media really worked. An entire design that preys on your mind psychologically. One that makes you addicted in order to make money. One that turns you into a gambler. One that promises you can make money or attain happiness on it if you play the game.
If it's not fixed they'll be a suicide wave at some point. All it takes is a Werther effect where a spike of emulation suicides take place after a widely publicized suicide.

Social media isn't bad. Our design of it is. Fixing that design is critical to the welfare of the world.

They can start by designing social media with the intention of figuring out how it can function as therapy for its users.
Help heal the damage caused and do even more.
If you own any form of stake in social media, you can actually make things better for the world through the design of this product you're invested in. That's an incredibly important and also beautiful responsibility.
I've been vocal about my preference of @instagram as a social media platform. As a story telling tool for a creative (something I believe everyone should be in some capacity), it has incredible potential.
Grateful @mosseri is heading Instagram. He says the well-being of Instagram users are his top priority and I believe him because his vibe & actions prove it. There's a lot more to be done but so far a good start. I hope he's allowed to do what he wants.
The design decisions @Twitter made to drive up engagement is destroying communication.
I don't want to be shown responses to people I don't follow. It's incredibly invasive on both sides.

If every action becomes fodder for a timeline that mostly operates on group think, every action will be questioned. This negatively changes the intention of everything.
There's a strong need for tech companies to hire empathetic social scientists — Most especially social media companies.

The design of social media at the moment is not social, it is mind control designed to drive users towards a psychological addiction for the sake of profit.
But as usual with humans, I don't expect attention to be paid to this until it is too late.

If humans don't recognise that climate change is a problem, why would they recognise that the design of social media is also an insidious problem?
