“good vibes only” and “positive vibes only” is a form of toxic positivity but I don’t think people are ready to truly talk about it without getting defensive
“positive vibes only” is a coping mechanism to get rid of the negative energy & emotions that we feel. You want an endless supply of positivity It’s an escape mechanism that people use in an attempt to get rid of the emotions and negativity you feel.
Life is a balance. There is no positivity without recognizing the negativity. True healing, true happiness, true positivity and good energy, only comes through facing the shadow side, recognizing it, dealing and healing from it. Accepting it as a part of life.
You are entitled to cut off who you want, but you think cutting off a friend that is going through it or has “bad energy” is toxifying your aura.. but their energy can’t toxify you when you’re balanced. The “positive vibes only so I have to cut you off” is harmful.
The people who need you and love you, who have “bad energy,” come to you for help when they see no light. some people don’t have the privilege to live in the light. It’s toxic because it dismisses all other emotions and it targets those w/ mental illnesses.
There’s no issue w/ searching for the good, but when shit gets bad, are you running from it? You must be able to withstand the negativity as well. When you ignore the shadow for so long, it will creep up on you. When negativity comes to you, don’t ignore it. Try to understand it
“Just be happy” No. how about we acknowledge that someone is going through it and needs help? There is no happiness until you recognize what is causing you so much turmoil and that is the tea. Positive vibes only dismisses all other emotions than positive ones.
That sadness you feel, The anxiety, the hopeless, the depressed, the anger... those feelings are not comfortable, but they are valid. Have them, feel them, understand them, & allow them to exist. We can’t use positivity to numb the feelings that make us uncomfortable.
