Welp...

I've been a little M.I.A. on social media these past few months, but I've got some personal news...
I've decided to take my career in (sort of) a new direction. I'll be starting graduate school to pursue an M.S. degree in Data Analytics at @UHDowntown this month.

At the start of my journalism career, I spent A LOT of time studying metrics to help make strategic decisions about how to handle online content.
It was something I really enjoyed. I want to get back to that and do more data analysis in the near future.

I made it through orientation! I'm both excited and nervous to start classes at @uhdowntown on Monday.
Got caught in the rain on the way to get my student ID, so my twist out is giving off major Frederick Douglass vibes. Get into it!
@uhdowntown update: My first week was a little overwhelming.
SO. MUCH. MATH.
This second week has slowed down a little. I'm learning how to not give myself such a hard time for being slow at learning all these new concepts.

Study situation: Statistics and creating data visualization graphs with ggplot2 in R. The more I practice in RStudio, the more I realize that it's kinda fun. :)
School update: The feeling of being overwhelmed has not left. In fact, last night I let those feelings get the best of me.
My homework is pilling up with all types of Statistics work and coding in R that I haven't seen before. I'm being STRETCHED in ways that I wasn't expecting.

Couple that with other things filling up my schedule outside of school.
I let myself have a moment where I acknowledged how I felt, but then I woke up this morning and SWITCHED OVER TO PRAISE.

Instead of saying "Ugh, I have to do xyz..."
I'm saying "Today I'm grateful for the opportunity to do xyz..." or "Today I get the chance to do xyz..."
It's about perspective. I almost forgot how hard I prayed to be able to get in school and be doing things I'm passionate about.

I'm feeling MUCH BETTER today. I logged into Blackboard this morning and saw that my first homework grade is in.
All the hard work isn't going unnoticed or unrewarded, so that's good to know.

More good news: Today I was confirmed to be a senator within @UHDowntown's Student Government Association. I'm excited to be more involved on campus and serve the student body in any way that I can. :)
The first big exam of the year on R programming is this Wednesday, which calls for a weekend study session with my classmates (and pizza!).
My homework grades are coming in STRONG! We're almost at the middle of the semester. Time is FLYING by.
A few photos from this week with my fellow @SGAUHD officers. It was a busy week on @UHDowntown's campus. We attended UHD President Munoz's report to the university community and the @KPRC2 education forum on campus. Not pictured: Registering over 100 students to vote on Tuesday.
Happy homecoming, @uhdowntown! Hanging out with @SGAUHD at the Alumni Relations tent and playing a few games.
Being an @SGAUHD senator has been filled w/ many enriching experiences. This week we hosted our 7th annual Walk 2 Vote event promoting civic engagement. @Lina4HC even stopped by to speak with us once we reached our voting location. She's so kind and her story is inspiring.
It was also great seeing Mayor @SylvesterTurner stop by @uhdowntown to kick things off alongside @SGAUHD for our 7th annual Walk 2 Vote event.
So much work went into making this Walk 2 Vote event happen and @SGAUHD ended up having a nice crowd of @uhdowntown students and candidates come out and support. Thank you to everyone who participated!
Random outtakes from the semester that I never posted from @SGAUHD at @UHDowntown's Student Involvement Day and our recent Hispanic Heritage Month celebration.
I had a great time with my fellow @SGAUHD
officers at this event. So many cool things are happening at @UHDowntown's College of Sciences and Technology. https://twitter.com/uhdowntown/status/1189592586996080641?s=19

In addition to being in @SGAUHD, I'm a Blue Coats Ambassador. The Blue Coats is a group of students who assist with events hosted by the Office of the President and Student Affairs. Here's a picture of me with one of my fellow Blue Coats and our @UHDowntown mascot.
One of the highlights from participating in my first event as a Blue Coat was getting to meet @repmaryann and have a brief conversation with her. https://twitter.com/repmaryann/status/1190365448979779584?s=19
And @repmaryann didn't come empty-handed. I love a good nail file, lol. :)
I spent the day spreading a little holiday cheer with @SGAUHD by serving Thanksgiving dinner at the Ronald McDonald's House ( @RMHChou) at Children's @MemorialHermann Hospital. So much fun!
Last day of the semester. After I take this final exam tonight, I'm done for the rest of 2019. Back to studying I go. Talk soon.
Okay. Grades are in. Ended my first semester of grad school with a 3.0 GPA. See y'all in spring 2020!
This time last week, @SGAUHD hosted a Black Women's Empowerment Brunch, along with UHD's Black Student Association, for #BlackHistoryMonth
.

I was able to meet my sister-in-height @JonesJolanda (LOL!) during the brunch. She was so kind!
On Saturday, I volunteered to do social media for @VolunteerBGCHOU's event. Check it out!

It's that seeeeeeason! @SGAUHD hosted its annual Walk 2 Vote event to promote civic engagement within the @uhdowntown community. We marched to the polls and I had the chance to meet @RodneyEllis. Mr. Ellis even helped us serve lunch to the student body before our march.
Today marks the end of the first week of virtual classes at @uhdowntown. From student organizations to evening classes, I've never been on so many Zoom meetings in my whole life. LOL!
I’m in my second week of my second year of grad school now. When I started this thread, I was pretty much at rock bottom.
I didn’t have much. I was holding on to the last little bit of hope that I had left for a brighter future.
