MERCURY ☿
— an informative master thread. ✨
What does Mercury represent?

Mercury’s other version is the Greek god Hermes; the product of Zeus and the nymph Maia.
Hermes is known for his youthful spirit, his talent in communication and negotiation, his swiftness and wittiness.
Mercury rules the signs Gemini and Virgo.
Hermes is also known to be the messenger of the gods (also being one himself).
Hermes has the ability to travel from the devine world to the mortal world to deliver messages - he’s the only god who has such ability. This makes him also the god of transport and short journeys.
He also represents theft, trickery and mendacity as he stole from his brother Apollo an oxen five minutes after he was born and covered his tracks by wearing his sandals backwards to make others think he was going in the opposite direction.
Finally, Mercury also represents siblings (eventually, cousins), early education, school (before university bc university = Jupiter).
Thus, aspects to Mercury can determine the type of relationship we have with our siblings (whether we have any) and our experience at school.
Mercury shouldn’t be studied by itself; the house it’s in, the aspects to it are just as important and affect the way we communicate: are we good with words? What’s the tone of our voice? Are we often understood or misunderstood by others? Do we answer messages immediately?
Since Mercury is what we think about, what we talk about & how we do so, it also has to do with how we convey the different planetary messages; how we communicate the mix of different energies in our birth chart to the outer world.
* Also, look out for any planets in Gemini or Virgo, the 3rd House and the ruler of the 3rd House. ( + the aspects as always, of course)
In this thread I will be focusing more on how this energy manifests itself when it’s in different signs but I could eventually do a second part where I focus more on the houses & aspects which would be a shorter thread. Anyway, here we go:
Mercury in Aries:

When Aries is placed in this sign, the individual will be someone who values actions over words and will want to get to the point directly. Indeed, they prefer being independent workers as they think everyone else is too ‘slow’.
They’re fast thinkers & loud speakers. They don’t like dwelling on something for too long and dismiss details they judge unimportant. They may appear agressive when they’re opposed and be bad at negotiating or seeing the other person’s point of view.
They love starting new projects but their enthusiasm is short lived. They may discontinue a project they were so enthusiastic to start because things got too complicating and boring.
Taurus Mercury:

These people often have a pleasant voice (they usually make great singers) and are slow thinkers and authoritative speakers. They want to digest and process information before they make up their mind on a subject and decide to speak.
Their cautious nature unables them to make quick decisions as they think about the financial and material outcome or simply how/if this outcome is going to benefit them. These people also dislike sugarcoating the truth and prefer to ‘say it as it is’ and are quite stubborn.
They want information to be presented concretely: touch, see, smell, hear and even taste it. Tarot Cards can be ideal for them as information is visually and logically presented. They love taking in and conveying information with simplicity and step-wisely.
Gemini Mercury:

Hermes himself! These individuals are good at communicating, negotiating/convincing and even lying and tricking. They’re quick-witted and are always up for a heated argument as they’re confident they’ll win. They value facts over morality.
These individuals speak fast and process information quickly as well as making connections. They’re natural born writers and their flexibility makes their mind agile and open to new ideas. They learn through experimenting and their curious nature makes them smart.
They may appear scattered as they get bored easily despite their curiosity and seldom develop an idea or dig deep. These people usually know a little bit about everything. They tend to be humorous and have a liking for mind-stimulating games like crossword puzzles.
Cancer Mercury:

These people make great historians as they have great passion for past events and often are nostalgic. They’re soft-spoken and consciously or subconsciously take the role of a maternal figure for others or secretly need one themselves. Great listeners
They encourage those around them to confide in them and as they’re empathetic though their compassion can make them biased and overly protective, clouding their objective thinking. They process information slowly thus they might not be talkative but they remember everything.
They might take things personally and usually have a need to withdraw to make a decision and process their feelings about a situation. They tend to be indirect or even mute at times when they’re expressing their anger or sadness as they wish to avoid loud and hurtful fights.
Leo Mercury:

These individuals are confident speakers and are good at bluffing. They take pride in their ideas and seldom admit their ignorance. They’re amazing storytellers as they dramatize and add color to any story they tell.
They’re loyal & are unlikely to talk poorly of their friends. Their pride can get in the way of their learning as they believe they already know everything. They’re quite creative and very good at self-expression and often pour their heart into their work.
These people are good at persuading with their warm, self-confident and friendly nature but usually don’t do well with criticism. They love being praised for their creativity and ideas.
