rachel is kind of an unlikeable character. she's so self centered, she's too driven, she's annoying, she's mean to people when she doesn't get her way, pretty self obsessed, too confident and kind of a bitch

i love unlikeable female characters so much, like so much. female characters who aren't just lovely selfless good people through and through, but instead female characters who have big, huge flaws while being written for the viewers to empathize with and relate to is just <3

so rachel is no doubt all those negative things i just mentioned like she's so annoying i could punch her sometimes. but she is all those things because she's SO passionate. her love for singing and musicals is so, so strong and it's so beautiful to witness

her passion is just too much, which affects how she treats others. and the reason she is this passionate about this is because that's all she has. like, rachel is a nerd, a total geek. she's not cool, she's never been cool. she has always been made fun of, people don't

understand her or know how to deal with her. she has always felt different, so the older she got the less she stopped caring about trying to fit in or be nice to people. she figured that this thing she loves with such a passion that other people just think is annoying is the

one thing she's got. rachel is really insecure about everything that doesn't have to do with her musical talent. she hasn't managed to get any close friends, so why even try. she has her passion, and that's enough for her

(as the show goes on she grows and realises that she too can get friends and that she is more than her singing which is why she becomes much kinder and much less annoying)

so like, keeping all these things in mind, it's pretty understandable that rachel acts the way she does in the first seasons and it makes my heart ache for her so much

she is SO alone, her singing is everything she has. she wont let anyone or anything stop her from reaching her goals and her dreams, because that's where her life will really start. that's where people will understand her, where she will be accepted and loved

the other kids in the glee club are also misfits and have been mistreated, but no one is as alone as rachel. but instead of acting like that bothers her, she puts on this overly confident persona and convinces herself that she doesn't need anyone else
