I am angry and disappointed that my government still views prisoner execution as an acceptable act.

There are SO many reasons to be morally opposed to this, not the least of which is that science refutes all claims that the death penalty is an effective criminal punishment

88% of surveyed criminologists reject the idea that the death penalty is an an effective crime deterrent. This is nearly the level of consensus among scientists on climate change.

When we analyze actual crime data, as scientific thinking demands that we do, regions with the highest execution rates also have the highest murder rates. Regions with the lowest execution rates have lowest murder rates.

With these facts in hand, what reasons remain to continue applying the death penalty? Science and data have laid bare how ineffective and unreliable it is.

The only reasons left are barbaric and immoral ones. They should not suffice. Let the death penalty die.
Sadly, science was historically misused to support the death penalty, including even in the pages of the journal Science! From 1888: https://science.sciencemag.org/content/ns-11/262/63

It is high time we apply science however we can to support outlawing this practice at once
