Let's start with the CARFAX: What we know about Leo -- Leo is ruled by the sun. The energy to create and express the self and understand identity is strong here. But where Sun Leos are in their domicile (rightful rulership) moon Leos are an entirely different temperament.

Leo moon people are passionate and creative, but carry their energy in a more cool and collected way. Whereas the Leo sun might come off more eccentric and open - the Leo moon can be a bit more private with their emotional spectrum.
