✨ A DETAILED ANALYSIS OF THE MUSIC VIDEO 'PINKY STAR (RUN)' BY GWSN ✨ @kiwipop_GWSN #GWSN #GirlsinthePark #공원소녀 #PinkyStar_RUN
✨ INTRODUCTION ✨
Hi Groos! I made this thread because GWSN are obviously creating a story and lore, and I wanted to try my hand at analysing what I could from Pinky Star.
Although I have tried my best to analyse this MV in the context of the GWSN storyline, I have based a lot of my thinking on what I see in the MV. I think it’s probably too early to actually piece everything together before Red Sun, so I did what I find fun, which is to analyse -
the video. Tbh I'm not great at figuring out the entire lore behind GWSN, so I have based some off my thoughts off of other Groos' theories, and will credit those Groos original accounts!

I’m not trying to claim I’ve got it all figured out (because I most -
definitely haven’t lmao) or that my analysis is “THE right one”. I made this analysis in the hope this might offer some insight into what possibilities could exist and also start more discussion about GWSN’s storyline among Groos, because it is obvious that Kiwipop and GWSN are -
putting a lot of effort into creating this story!

I know this analysis seems long (and… it kind of is lol) but there are a lot of pictures too that show what I am talking about, so I hope it isn't too heavy, and I hope other groos might find this helpful or interesting -
and that this analysis is okay to read!

I will TRY to keep this clear and concise and as short as possible, but there is A LOT going on in this MV and I sometimes want to offer some background info about certain topics because not everyone might be familiar with them...
✨ QUICK POINTS BEFORE WE START ✨

- LYRICS: I use the song lyrics to analyse the MV. I'd like to point out that since the original lyrics are in Korean, I am obv using the translated version as my Korean is far from being able to reliably translate song lyrics. I have used -
1theK's subs and Genius' translations, but sometimes they differ in significant ways. I do know SOME Korean, so sometimes I checked idividual words with Naver Dictionary and used what I found made the most sense because I can't be sure anyways lol but if anyone knows enough
Korean and wants to correct something, pls feel free to do so!

- WORDS I USE:
I will refer to Puzzle Moon as PM, Pinky Star (RUN) as PS and Red Sun (021) as RS to save time and space.

I've used the term "enlightenment" a lot throughout this analysis, and by that I mean
enlightenment as in self-fulfilment, to become one's "complete" sense.

I will also talk about dreams a lot, and although when I started this analysis I was mostly referring to dreams as in hopes/aspirations, physical sleep/dreams also seem to be becoming a recurring theme in
the TPITN trilogy - in PM and the RS teasers, they are seen falling asleep, and it does happen in PS as well, but imo it's not as prominent in PS? And the entirety of PS seems to deal more with dreams in the more abstract sense.
- FINALLY, CREDITS/SHOUTOUTS TO:
@/miiyas - for posting the storyline parts of the albums (sorry can't find your new @ 😭)
@/sunseokyoung - for posting about the lore
@/TPITNpt3 - for the loop theory
@/uniqlyexcited - for discussing with me
@/gongwon_neko - for hyping me up lol

+ anyone else who has discussed/shared their theories and thoughts!

(I added / before your usernames as I wasn't sure if you all would enjoy getting notifs 😅😅)

ALRIGHT, let's finally start!!
✨ THE DIFFERENT VERSIONS OF THE GIRLS ✨
I believe that the different looks the girls have represent different versions/aspects of themselves. I want to quickly explain this before starting to analyse the MV step by step, where I will explain my thoughts in more detail.
while figuring out how to achieve/reach their dreams with their newfound abilities.
THE "REAL" GWSN

This version of GWSN seem to be the "real"/"original"/"incomplete" versions of themselves, and kind of the protagonists of this MV. It is this version of the girls who are stuck in the loop and who discover their powers.
THE "DREAM" GWSN

The version of the girls dressed in pink are their "dream" selves and exist in the dream world of the PS MV (I will explain this later). They are the subconscious manifestations of the GWSN the girls want to become and encourage the "real" girls.
THE "BLURRED" GWSN

This version of the girls seems to be the result of their "real" and "dream" selves starting to become one towards the end of the video.
THE "DIVINE"/"OTHER" GWSN

This version of the girls is the most mysterious one. They have very little screentime so it's hard to tell, but they don't seem to exist in the PS universe as the rest of the versions do. They could represent the "fulfilled" versions of the girls.
✨ THE MV, STEP BY STEP ✨
The MV starts off with this quote:

“We may be someone greater than we think we are.”
- from the ‘folio of GWSN’

This reflects the fact that GWSN are about to discover that they have more power than they might have thought + harkens back to Chapter 3 - Book of the Star,
where a new paper strip has appeared asking GWSN to come find the owner of the strip and that they will give the girls “a new strength”, and the girls test out their new abilities which are “mild in nature, geared towards helping others”.
(Side note: probably overthinking this one, but the choice to call it ‘folio of GWSN’ stuck out to me - a folio can be defined as ‘a LEAF especially of a manuscript or book’, but it also sounds very similar to foliage, and considering trees have important meaning
in the GWSN lore I felt like mentioning it lol. I don't really think it's that important but if it is indeed intentional it's a cute choice imo!)
While we’re on the topic of GWSN lore, teaser #2 for PS has this quote from the chapter The Doors of Perception:

“If you posess a unique strength, it must be used for good.”
The Doors of Perception describes how at a school carnival, the girls open a secret both with a small tree they name ‘Groo’ where people can hang up their wishes on December 13 and that “one never knows when their wishes may come true.”

Interestingly enough, December 13 is
Saint Lucy’s day. You can read more about it here if you're not familiar with it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saint_Lucy%27s_Day
The most important aspect of the legend that I can connect to the GWSN lore is that it is considered a festival of light during the winter,
and that it used to coincide with the winter solstice which is the shortest day of the year before the calendar reforms - meaing when the earth is the furthest away from the sun. Considering GWSN's lore is deeply connected to nature and especially the sun/moon/stars,
I believe this is significant, although I'm not sure exactly what significance it has to the GWSN storyline.

I’m hesitant to draw definite connections to Saint Lucy’s day since, from what we’ve seen, I don’t really feel it fits with GWSN lore to include specifically Christian
ideas, except maybe for a comparison where the girls might become light bringers themselves?

However, we can’t ignore it when they give us these specific dates, they must have been chosen for a reason! so I think the strongest link to this is the fact that it used to be during
winter solstice and its implications for light and darkness. As I brought up earlier, the doors of perception mentions that hanging wishes up during the 13th day of December might lead to wishes coming true. would this then mean that the sun somehow has influence over the chance
of wishes being granted, and that the further away it is, the more chance wishes have of being fulfilled? Or that the further away from the sun, the darker the wish is? I feel like normally in stories that have events taking place during winter solstice those events are chances
for evil to become stronger or appear but I'm no expert on this topic... Hopefully we might understand a bit more when Red Sun is dropped and we get some more lore!

Back to the MV.
After the quote, we see the black room with the stump of a white tree and a white goose. I will describe later what I think this room represents, but I’d still like to mention the stump. I think it’s safe to assume that this stump, which later on is also shown as a full tree, is
either another version or kind of the wish tree or some similar powerful kind of tree, but it's worth noting we never actually see wish papers in this tree... For simplicity’s sake, I will refer to it as “the white tree” or “wish tree”.
But what’s interesting is that in this scene, it is just a stump - and it doesn’t look like it withered naturally and fell by itself, or is a "baby" tree that has just begun to grow - it has been cleanly cut down. By who or what, we don’t know, but that does have some -
interesting implications!
Then this version, the "Other" Miya, appears with a camera and looks into it at the stump and the goose.
Other Miya then turns the turns the handle on the right side of the camera one lap, and the tree goes from being a stump to a full tree. I think this is the first evidence of time loops.
I was first informed of this theory:
https://twitter.com/TPITNpt3/status/1140950704720191488
I think that’s definitely a valid theory which could apply to the GWSN universe, but I think there is a loop /within/ Pinky Star itself, too. I will keep pointing out possible evidence of this loop as we proceed with
the MV.

I think Other Miya turning the handle one lap could represent one loop: she restarts the loop, thus restoring the tree. By turning the handle, taking a picture, the PS timeline is reset. However, it is still unclear exactly how the worlds of PM/PS/RS are connected,
so it’s difficult to say if Other Miya resetting the time zone only in PS or if it’s affecting PM and RS as well.
It’s unclear whether Real Miya knows this or not - it’s really hard to tell because on one hand, she often seems different from the other girls, but on the other she seems stuck like the rest of them (I will discuss this further during her rap verse).
However, I think the Other Miya knows, and that she consciously chose to reset the loop to restore the tree - but we can’t be completely sure as we don’t know much about their Other versions…
From the picture Other Miya takes, we zoom out to Real Miya slamming the locker shut with pictures of the girls and the tree inside.
Showing the same actions happening over and over again is a common device to depict time loops (think Groundhog Day for example), and over and over in this MV we get shots zooming out of the pictures in Real Miya’s locker, which she then shuts.
The pictures remain the same as well, except for their position. This could mean the girls have acted slightly differently in different loops, but it doesn't seem to be having any other effect.
Finally, the song starts - and here something significant happens which will be relevant throughout the rest of the MV - the aspect ratio (the proportions of the footage between the length by height) changes from widescreen to 1:1. This is, admittedly, a trend within K-Pop MVs
lately, but i believe this really serves a purpose for the storytelling in PS.

The aspect ratio changes whenever the… let’s call it “world”, changes. I will explain more in depth when we get to those scenes, but I think this music video is divided between “reality”, “dreams”
and “fulfilment”, just like the girls are divided in different versions of themselves, and these are represented through their respective three different worlds. Again, I will describe each world more when we get to those parts of the MV.

Whenever we have shots from the “real”
world, the aspect ratio is 1:1, and the shots from the “dream” and “fulfilment” worlds are in widescreen. The reason for the “real” world having the 1:1 ratio is to show how the “real” world is restricted compared to the others. The girls literally have less space to be seen
and move in when the video is in 1:1 format. When the aspect ratio changes to square, it is like two borders closing in on the picture. Meanwhile, there are no visible borders for the “dream and “fulfilment” worlds, reflecting their limitless nature.
Let's start to analyse the lyrics straight away.

"That instant (instant instant)
That instant (instant instant)
Isn't that so?"

In the introduction I mentioned translation issues, and here we run into a problem. Word choice can really affect the way you interpret text,
especially more abstract text, like poetry and lyrics. The ‘instant’ in the very first line is translated as “moment” by 1theK, and Naver Dictionary has both ‘moment’ and ‘instant’ listed... It’s not completely different, but an instant is just that - an instant,
while a moment has a broader span of time it could encompass, and considering GWSN’s timeline is likely about time loops and such, it would be nice to know if they meant instant or moment... (But this might just be me being picky about details lol...)
If we think about these lyrics with the loop theory in mind, this could support that theory. “That instant” is repeated, echoed, and followed with “Isn’t it so?”. The instant or moment is literally repeated, followed by what could be a "normal" question, a rhetorical one or more
of an affirmation. Is it really that instant? As I mentioned earlier, the loop resets, making it technically the same moment, but it’s not exactly the same every time, hence this line.
(Another sidenote: not sure if it's me just over-analysing everything again, especially since i don’t know much about song production, but - seoryoung’s high note in the beginning before the first verse. high notes tend to be the climax of the song, right?
but in PS it happens before the first verse, so maybe this could also reflect the way that time isn’t linear in this story and how one loop has just ended for another to begin…?)
- THE ROOMS

Before continuing on with the rest of the music video, I would like to briefly analyse the rooms that girls are in in the “real” world. They are paired up the same way they were in the PM MV, so these pairings are probably significant for the lore.
But let’s take a quick look at what their rooms are like.

Seo2’s room is connected with nature, the arts. There are flowers, both real and as patterns on the wallpaper, lamp, and possibly also the rocking chair and carpet (but it’s hard to make out).
Seoryoung is painting. Seokyoung is watering the plants.

Notice how Seoryoung’s painting seems to have taken some artistic freedoms - this can be connected to the surrealist movement and especially to the message of Magritte’s The Treachery of Images (1929).
This connection might seem a bit far-fetched at the moment, but it will be relevant in much more clearer ways further into the MV. I will explain it more in detail later on, but The Treachery of Images is basically about how art is always a subjective interpretation
by the artist, and we can see that Seoryoung has not painted the flower vase and it’s surroundings “exactly” as it is.

Seokyoung’s watering can doesn’t seem to have any water in it, and this is becoming a really interesting running theme with her.
In her teaser, she gets associated with one of their pantone colours - pantone 297, which is blue, and is the colour of “pureness, freshness, wind, water, air, and earth” - but here she is without water in her watering can. The reason why I described it as a pattern is because in
PM, she sits in a bathtub - also devoid of water. Would it have happened only once, I would maybe think that I’m exaggerating its importance, but this has happened twice now, and water continues to be a theme for her in this music video. I think that water is somehow significant
for Seokyoung’s storyline, but to what extent, we’ll have to wait and see.
Soso & Minju’s room is based on science, rationality, and discovery.

Soso is sitting with a white, “empty” globe and a map behind her. It’s really interesting that the globe is devoid of patterns - does this reflect the fact that she doesn’t know the world? Or that the world
they exist in in PS is that blank?

On the map behind her on the wall, she has marked out distorted star patterns. This could be meant to represent that there is some kind of pattern that she understands in theory, but not in “reality”. The reason I think this is due to the fact
that no maps can ever be completely accurate due to the fact that trying to interpret a three-dimensional object in 2D will always resort in a distorted image, and thus globes are more reliable ways to represent the world. But Soso’s globe has nothing on it for her to mark out
the pattern on, and this could mean that she cannot apply her theory, plan or pattern to this reality. Here, again, we run into issues of reality and how it is represented.

It could also represent that she keeps travelling the same distance and ends up at the same places,
since she seems to be connected to exploration.
Minju has a chemistry set, a Newton’s cradle (demonstrates conservation of momentum and energy), and that thing I do not now what to call and could not find by googling which has several swinging magnifying glasses (I will just call it magnifying rack for convenience's sake lol)
on her table, so she is being heavily connected to physics and science - and isn’t science considered as being a universally truthful way to understand and represent the world? She also has what looks like thermometers and barometers on the wall next to her, so she also studies
weather phenomena.
Both Soso and Minju have display cases of insects, but Minju’s look more like she might have saved them for future use, while the ones close to Soso are more about discovering and displaying different species. This further connects them to zoo-/entomology.
On the shelf high up on the wall are bottles and a scale. It’s hard to say who they belong to, but they fit both of them.

The scale is also the most common symbol for justice, but it is also used for precise measuring.
Overall, Soso and Minju’s goals seem to be to understand the world through exploration, examination, science and rational thought.
Anne & Lena’s room is (just like PM) basically a library filled with books. The books make connections to knowledge, especially paired with the stairs (climbing upwards = elevating oneself, achieving succes) which further emphasises the link to intellectual pursuit and
enlightenment. The hole in the ceiling has plants hanging down from it, just like the hole in the Circle Room (the one at the very beginning and end of the MV).

Lena is sleeping with one of the pink GWSN books in her lap. Sleeping means that her eyes are literally closed and
she isn’t fully conscious/aware, her mind isn’t “awake”, which contrasts the theme of their room. Anne is also just putting books away, she isn’t picking any up and reading them. (This is also an example of the way that sleeping is a reoccuring theme in the GWSN MVs.)
Anne starts off the the first verse with the lines:

“In the moment to grow apart
I hold the end
Snap the moment (the very moment)”

The shot is timed so that when she sings the word ‘hold’, it matches exactly when Lena grabs the GWSN book to read it.
The GWSN books could lead the way to understanding how to end the loop considering they supposedly tell the story of GWSN, and she literally “hold[s] the end” by taking the book.

Now, the usage of the word “snap”/”click” (찰칵 in korean) seemed odd to me, so I decided to
look up what 찰칵 means according to the Naver Korean English Dictionary, and I found something interesting. 찰칵 can be translated in a few ways:
I feel like the second definition could make a lot of sense, if we consider the rest of the lyrics, and if we apply this meaning, they would turn into something like this...

“In the moment to grow apart
I hold the end
Unlock the moment (the very moment)”
...which, again, fits well with the time loop theory! when they are about to grow apart as the loop is about to reset, they want to unlock, to free themselves from that moment.
(Also, the fact that 찰칵 can be specifically linked with locks opening and closing could be significant to Miya since her symbol/object is a key, and in PM she unlocks the elevator...)
Then Minju continues with:

“Time is short (Yeah!)
Are you okay? (Ah?)”

Again, allusions to time and how they don’t have much time to escape the loop. Minju is sitting and just staring through the magnifying glass at nothing, and Soso keeps spinning the empty globe.
Both of their postures are disengaged- they’re not seriously looking, it’s more like they’re just waiting for time to pass.

During Minju’s lines, the magnifying glasses hanging from the magnifying rack are swinging back and forth like pendulums, as is the Newton’s cradle.
Since you use magnifying glasses to be able to see things, this could connect it to perception - it helps to expand your perception of the world since you are able to see smaller details. But the magnifying glasses in the magnifying rack are swinging, and when they overlap,
it distorts your vision instead, which could be a reflection of the distorted world they seem to exist in in PS. Since the Newton’s cradle is placed next to the magnifying rack, swinging in a similar way, I think this could also be a way of showing that the laws of physics of
this world are connected to the way time works in the PS universe.

The camera also moves in steadily on Minju’s face during the “time is short”, only to have snapped back to its original position, with Soso and Minju seemingly in the exact same positions - another shot that
visually hints at loops.

After this, the camera pans over to Seo2’s room while Minju sings “Are you okay? (Ah?)”.
Seokyoung keeps tilting her watering can back and forth in a very mechanical fashion, but no water is coming out, and Seoryoung keeps mixing the colours on her palette in the same way without actually painting. If they are stuck in a loop and have been for some while,
they are likely feeling demoralised, hence Minju's question. Seokyoung’s answering line during this shot is “We’re growing apart?”.

The “growing apart” could be about the girls not being together, as they are in different rooms (and even inside the rooms the pairs are
disconnected from each other, doing their own things), or it could be linked to them not being connected to their “dream selves” (which I will finally explain when the set changes for the next scene), and as such they are powerless and weak, which could be the reason behind
Minju’s “Are you okay?”.
The last thing we see from Seo2’s room before the camera pans away is Seokyoung even turning her watering can upside down to no avail, and Seoryoung just barely looking at her painting, but her brush doesn’t actually touch the canvas. They just barely have some willpower left.
The camera then pans over and zooms in on Soso, who sings “The moment/instant to grow apart” and has mapped out a pattern which has created a star shape. This could mean she has explored the “real” world to try to find the way to create a star,
to make her dream or goal come true.

And now, we finally arrive at the first chorus!
As soon as it changes to this world, which is the one I referred to as the “dream” world, the aspect ratio expands to full screen again - here, they are not limited in the same way they are in the “real” world. This version of the girls are also together, dancing as a group.
Now, let’s analyse the visual inspiration this set, because it is a vital part to understanding this MV. When I first watched this scene, my mind immediately connected it to surrealism - the cloudy sky, the building, and even the way that the lighting works that gives everything
a slightly “painted” look - all of this bears strong similarity to surrealist works.

Since everyone might not be very familiar with surrealism as an art movement, here is a description from http://www.theartpostblog.com/en/surrealism/  where I highlighted parts I find particularly relevant to PS:
Now for the cloudy background: it bears strong similarity to works of Magritte, whose paintings often had cloud dreamscapes in them.
Magritte is also the creator of this famous painting which says: “This is not a pipe.” The painting, which is called The Treachery of Images which is the one I referred to earlier while analysing Seoryoung's painting, is meant to illustrate the fact that what the viewer sees
is not actually a real pipe, but an image, an artist’s rendition of a pipe, highlighting the difference between art and reality - no matter how exactly something is depicted in art, it is still just an image of it, and not reality. This may seem obvious, but it points out that
you can't say that that painting IS a pipe - it is only a representation of one. I think this quote from Magritte explains it well: “The famous pipe. How people reproached me for it! And yet, could you stuff my pipe? No, it's just a
representation, is it not? So if I had written
on my picture 'This is a pipe', I'd have been lying!”
Now, the building is a really interesting connection. The way the building looks immediately brought this artwork to mind: M. C. Esher’s 'Relativity'.
I’ll just add the Wikipedia article description and bold the parts where I see connections to GWSN’s concept. I've also added some footnotes which I'll include my thoughts behind.

From now on I will call the building in the “dream” world the Relativity Building.
So, with all that in mind, let’s look at this shot. This could be considered GWSN’s “dream” world, where their subconscious, thoughts and wishes are able to take form without limit. We can see the girls both as they were in their rooms and as a group, dancing. The “real” versions
of the girls scattered about, exploring their powers, while the “dream” girls are dancing in the corner.

If we think about the quote in the beginning again, “We may be someone greater than we think we are”, I think the pink, dancing GWSN are the versions of themselves
they want to become, who they are able to fully visualise and connect with in this dream space where anything they are able to imagine can come to be.

However, the “real” girls only appear in the “dream” world after the “dream” girls have this scene.
This scene comes right after Seokyoung and Soso’s “We’re growing apart? (The moment to grow apart)”, with the lines “If I come closer, you run away / If I go forward, you run away” . the dance moves also reflect them approaching each other, only to pass and drift apart again.
This could reflect the way the PS world works as described in the description for 'Relativity', how, because the “real” and “dream” selves are from different ‘gravities’, they will pass on different sides.
It could also be linked to the loop theory. As “time is short”, they don’t manage to understand how to reach their “dream” selves, or if they do it’s not fast enough, and the loop resets before they are able to come together.
We see Minju, Lena and Seoryoung all starting to understand, each of them with an object representing this. Minju has a house of cards, and considering she and Soso are connected with science, I think it could mean she has understood the
"gravity"/laws of physics/way these worlds work (otherwise she might not be able to make the house of cards, which needs to be stacked precisely not to fall). Lena is reading from the GWSN book, which means she begins to understand the story of GWSN and Seoryoung is holding an
apple, which means she understands her powers. She was not able to paint the apple onto her painting, but now she has managed to create one. The apple is also a common symbol of knowledge from the Bible, but it can also be connected to Magritte again,
who often used apples as motifs in his paintings.

In short, they are starting to understand their powers they have, the way the worlds works and what they have to do to become their dream selves.
(Also…. the way Minju’s eye is framed by the cards in her shot… is very reminiscent of the Eye of Providence aka the Illuminati symbol... LOL I did some very quick googling but I couldn't find any other connections except they happen to look similar)
Onto the pre-chorus!

First of all, I find it interesting that they are doing their “Make it moon”-gesture. This gives us a clear link to PM together with Soso’s “I wanna be with you MOON” line which comes later. Honestly not sure how exactly the PM/PS/RS worlds
are woven together, so I don't know how to interpret the meaning of making this gesture during this line...
Let’s look at the lyrics. This is the translation by Genius:

"Runner, I'm Runner
I Wanna, Be With You
Oh my, oh my god, how long? (I Run)
Run, run more, I shine, you give
I'm trying to run to you (I Run)"
...while the 1theK subs have translated the last two lines like this:

"Run, run more
You’re shining on me
I’m gonna run to you (I Run)"

Personally I /think/ the 1theK translation makes more sense in this case.
So if we go with the second, it speaks about their dream selves shining on them, and they want to reach them/be with them so the “real” GWSN can achieve enlightenment and fullfilment. To illustrate this, during the “I’m gonna run to you”-part we see Miya walking up the stairs…
...and arriving at the roof of the Relativity Building, where Soso has now multiplied into three. She was able to multiply because this is their dream world where “the unconscious is free from any limit”, meaning Soso is able to explore without the limitation of being at
one place at a certain time. The rest of the girls are also testing out this world where they can achieve what they couldn't in the "real" world.
And then we have the chorus. The lyrics also go on like this:

"Promise me, Pinky Star
I'll show you. Finger Heart
No matter where you are
No matter how long (Yeah! Yeah!)
I'll find you
My Dream, My Dream
I Wanna Be With You, MOON"
I interpret this as their different selves wanting to connect and become one. The Dream GWSN want their Real selves to promise them that they will run to find their dreams, and they want to help show them how.
It’s also interesting to note how the screentime is distributed to the Real and Dream versions of the girls in regards to the lyrics. I will use the Genius lyrics for copy-paste convenience to illustrate my point by colour coding the lyrics according to which version is shown
on screen, with blue for the “real” girls, pink for the “dream” and grey for their combined version at the end:
If you analyse the lyrics based on this, you can see how the two versions of the girls are singing to each other, trying to seek each other out, wanting to become one, and understanding more and more throughout the song how to get there.
Onwards to Miya’s rap part!

Miya seems to be both connected and disconnected to the other girls at the same time, and honestly, I find her role pretty mysterious. From Miya's teaser, the PM MV, and the PS MV I get the feeling that Miya is inherently different from
the rest of the girls, or has a very different origin/background. She seems to roam around freely in both MVs, in PS she’s often around the stairs, and in PM she is mostly in the elevator. In her teaser, she was the only one whose face was shown (even if it was just a partial
shot of her eye - which @/uniqlyexcited pointed out could be a reference to the Right Eye of Ra https://twitter.com/uniqlyexcited/status/1151160831519809536) and the music in her teaser also had a feeling of foreboding or danger, which none of the other girls had.
I also don't think it's a coincidence that Kiwipop would choose her to have a different role, as her whole aesthetic is different from the rest of the girls.
In this scene, she once again is seen slamming the locker door shut, which contains pictures of each girl and one of the white wish tree. She is also swinging a key around. Her official symbol is a key, and in the PM MV she uses the GUNE GUNDA key. She doesn’t use her key in
this video, and this is likely intentional - she literally holds the key but doesn’t do anything, because, as she raps, she doesn’t “know anything”.

Stairs and elevators are both used to reach different levels, and going up stairs/elevators is a metaphor for success.
It also has connotations of reaching heaven or similar divine planes, as you are literally ascending. But Miya seems to be somehow be stuck and looping in those places. In PM, it is after she uses her key that the elevator is unlocked and the rest of the girls are able to get on
but in PS she never uses it…

She also doesn’t have a clearly defined pair: in the beginning, she’s alone, then with Anne, then with Lena, then with Anne and Soso, then with Anne and Lena, then alone again, looking into the camera, then taking a picture of Anne, etc…
And in the wide shots of the Relativity Building, she’s the only one who is running around. The other girls stay in the same place all the time. Considering the big message of the song is to RUN, Miya seems to have things a little more figured out than the rest of them, but she
is still stuck.

I want to look at the lyrics of her, Seokyoung and Anne’s rap part, but here again there are different translations… The Genius one goes like this:
While the 1theK version goes like this:
Personally, I think the 1theK version makes the most sense, so I will go with that one.

It’s hard to tell especially with Miya’s parts what the lyrics are meant to say… But considering the way she seems disconnected from the rest and keeps running around the
Relativity Building, she is maybe at the same time the most enlightened and the most ignorant one? I’m not too sure, but the way she looked at the camera at the very end of PM seems meaningful, and as mentioned, she has been nearby/on/climbing the stairs the most in this MV,
but her lyrics express confusion. maybe she doesn’t know who she is herself? But she still realises that she needs to run to achieve her goals, considering she has the “RUN” part and the dance break?
Then we have her closing that locker multiple times, together with the lyrics “Before the night is gone / I’m gonna run forward / I won’t wait for a long time”. Maybe Miya has understood the loop and has now realised that she can get out of it by running towards her goals?
The aspect ratio also goes back to 1:1 during the rap part until the line “Now I realized this!”, where it once again expands to widescreen, further supporting my line of thinking that the aspect ratio represents their enlightenment and being unrestricted,
and that Miya has now realised something important. She is now also the one who looks into the camera herself, which could be a way to show her introspection, or maybe that she is now able to understand her power, which seems to be linked to the camera somehow.
Now things seem to change though.
This time, during the “If I come closer, you run away / If I go forward, you run away”, we see Lena and Seoryoung lying down among books and apples, looking sad and as if they’ve given up. The amount of objects around them could mean that they’ve tried to reach their dreams
over and over again but haven’t managed to make it happen yet and are losing the will and motivation to go on. them lying down is significant - if they were standing, it could mean they are just stopping for a moment, but they can start walking or running at any time. but they
are lying down, meaning they have no intention to get up and move at all.
Then, a few shots later, we see that the rest of the girls seem to be stopping as well. Soso is back to being one and sitting inside, not exploring. Anne is no longer fiddling with the puzzle cube, Seokyoung has closed her umbrella and Minju seems so be clearing the table.
They have discovered their powers, but still don’t seem to know how to reach their dreams.
Just before the pre-chorus starts, Seokyoung’s dream self sings “Oh now I have to go to you”, and then, in the pre-chorus, this happens:
Seokyoung’s Dream self is inspiring her Real self, like I pointed out in the highlighted lyrics earlier. When Dream Seokyoung has a close up, so does Real Seokyoung in the normal rooms, and the same happens with Soso and Lena -
Soso’s Real self gets a close up, with the lyrics “I Run”, and then her dream self shows up with “You’re, shining on me”.

Also of note in the second shot is the fact that there are white feathers falling out of her watering can, and the only other thing with white feathers
in this video is… the white goose! Feathers are also associated with hope through other works, such as Emily Dickinson’s 'Hope is the Thing with Feathers'. A summary of it’s meaning from http://study.com  :
“In this poem, Dickinson is creating a metaphor of hope through a bird. The hope that is within the speaker is much like a bird that continues to fly inside her. While we may all experience some dark times, hope can offer some encouragement.”
The goose is only in the video at the start, with Dream Miya, and then at the end, when the girls have reached their goals. We could posit that the goose is a symbol of hope.

As a side note, the goose is also featured in the second PS teaser - this time held by their Other
selves. Their Other selves hold their hope, and almost seem like they have a goddess-like status.
After Dream Lena has her “I’m gonna run to you” line, Real Lena's book also flips to pages were RUN is written.
With this, we’ve reached a new turning point in the music video. Suddenly, the shots with their Dream selves dancing are a bit more desaturated. Shooting stars are also starting to fall in the background.
Dreams and reality are beginning to intertwine and become one from this point. Their real selves in the normal rooms are able to use their powers, and they are getting even more powerful in the Dream world. They are now once more starting to move in the Relativity Building shots.
Seoryoung has now actually continued her painting by adding the apple, which she then manages to actually “take out” of the painting. This becomes even more surreal if we remember what Magritte had to say about art: “And yet, could you stuff my pipe? No, it's just a
representation, is it not?” Unlike Magritte’s statement that a painting is merely a rendition of reality, Seoryoung is now able to actually able to paint beyond these limits, painting something “real” - and therefore the apple is real!
Seokyoung's watering can now also has water flowing out of it. Both of their powers are manifesting.
In this shot from the Dream world, the apple has even become gold - a reference to the Midas touch, and how Seoryoung now has a kind of painterly Midas touch? Or maybe just how she is able to shape reality even more in the Dream world?
This is quickly interrupted by a quick shot of Miya once again shutting the locker door, and again, the aspect ratio for that shot is 1:1. Did the loop just reset again? It quickly goes back to their Dream selves, again a bit more desaturated, with the lyrics:
“The beautiful time / The short moment I reached you”. Time seems to have run out in the previous loop, but their Real and Dream selves had managed to catch up for the shortest moment.
However, their Real selves still seem to have reached the enlightenment they need to keep going in this loop. They have been taught completeness, and are able to gather together to reach enlightenment together, and the GWSN book appears from the hole in the ceiling,
flipping to the page they need: “RUN”.
Commence the dance break, and the climax of the song.

They are still in the room, with the 1:1 aspect ratio, but they are wearing the pink outfits, meaning dreams and reality are continuing to mix, and they are becoming their dream selves.
As the dance break starts, the aspect ratio actually widens slightly to something like a 3:4 ratio (?), and the camera, which for earlier scenes in this set had been moving mostly left-right or backwards-forwards, is now moving much more freely -
again, signs they are breaking out of their limitations.
The dance break continues outside the Relativity Building, and again, the shot is desaturated. The pink elements of their outfits have been switched to white ones. Reality and dreams are blurring together.
If we analyse the costume choice, this version of the girls seems to be the result of blending reality with dreams - the extravagant pink and navy combination switched to a more everyday black and white, but the pieces themselves remain pretty much the same.
The same goes for makeup and hair - it's pretty much the same as their Dream selves, but a little bit more toned down.
Now their Real selves are there again, /running/ their Blurred selves, and once again in their respective pairs: Minju & Soso, Lena & Anne, Seokyoung & Seoryoung, and Miya alone.
All of their different versions of themselves are really starting to merge now.
Again, Miya seems to be doing her own thing, running /into/ the Relativity Building alone...
And we've finally reached the Circle Room!!

Before taking a last look at the lyrics, I’d like to study the set a bit. As we can see, the Dream world is still connected, and the girls are dancing in a round pool surrounded by stairs.
Circles are shapes associated with perfection and eternity. The stairs also lead up towards the sky, keeping with the theme of enlightenment.

@/no_never00 pointed out its inspiration: The Oval by Tadao Ando. According to http://archeyes.com/benesse-house-tadao-ando/, The Oval is part of the Benesse
House Museum (all of it designed by Ando), which the website describes as such: "The Benesse House is a place where people can explore art, nature, architecture, and their own thoughts in a multi-layered and synergistic fashion." The concept is based on “coexistence of nature,
art and architecture”, which fits well with GWSN's nature-connected concept and goal to be a group whose music can be accessible and healing for all.
Here something really interesting happens with the formation. They are standing in a V-shape, with their arms stretched out while wearing those white outfits. There was something about this, but i couldn’t put my finger on it until it hit me - geese. Geese fly in V-formations!
And with their arms stretched out like they’re about to fly, doesn’t the shape created by their upper bodies in those white shirts kind of resemble goose-shapes with the arms as their long necks?
Geese use this formation while flying to preserve energy by reducing air resistance and it makes it easier for them to keep track of each other (plus, it could also facilitate communication among the group).
GWSN are now able to fly towards their dreams together, and they have the hope and support they need from each other!
Another interesting connection: M. C. Escher, who made 'Relativity', also made this print, Day And Night (1938):
The birds in this print are not any specific breed, but they look similar to geese, and I wonder if this print might not have been the reason behind the choice to use a goose in the MV as I am confident that 'Relativity' at least is the inspiration for the Relativity building.
The black and white outfits could also have been inspired to some degree from this print.
As usual with Escher’s works, it's impossible to distinguish where the birds or backgrounds begin and end, because they are all actually melting into each other, just like reality and dreams melt together in PS. This video explains the print in a bit more detail:
Another point made in that video is that you cannot see the two types of birds at the same time, and that they “cannot live in the same universe at any given time”. If we compare it to PS, the only times we see both versions of the girls is in the “dream” world which by
definition is a surreal one, and even in those shots, you can’t really focus your eyes on both versions at the same time either.
Although these shots are maybe not as difficult to make out as Escher’s prints, I still find it hard to look at both versions of the girls at the same
time, especially when actually watching the MV in motion.

The title 'Day and Night' is also reminiscent of GWSN lore - as I mentioned before, night and day seem to have huge significance in the world of GWSN, with the trilogy being named The Park in the Night, plus having title
tracks like PM and RS.
