Yes...a 2001 review found that, on average, men have a higher desire for sex than women. But its a lot more complicated than & #39;men have SEVEN times more testosterone.

Libido is a complex interplay of factors: physical, psychological and social. And even among the 1st set of factors, the & #39;sex& #39; hormones are not are not the king pins.

That role is governed by the mesolimbic dopamine pathway - a set of structures in the brain.

Consequently, dopamine and related trace amines (primarily phenethylamine) that modulate dopamine neurotransmission play a critical role in regulating libido. Then there are others: oxytocin, serotonin, progesterone, norepinephrine et al...which play a part both for and against.

All this is the baseline on which social and psychological factors fulminate on. In short, this is best thought of on a case by case, person by person basis.
