I suspect that the number of people currently pontificating about the value and importance of the Arnautoff murals at George Washington High School who had ever heard of or seen them before this current controversy happened approaches zero.
"An Art is Being Beaten"
What's weird about the "save the Arnautoff mural" discourse is that it so replicates the arguments in favor of confederate monuments. And when it's described as a "painful and truthful reminders of the birth of our nation" people gloss over its location in a school's lobby.
Unless people want to re-locate the school so that the public can enjoy the mural, it sort of feels like the school should make a decision about what is good for the kids who go there
