so today i learned that procrastination isn’t about laziness. it’s about avoiding the negative emotions that come with doing whatever task it is. but it ends up creating more negative emotions & we keep doing it cuz we need immediate, yet temporary, relief from said emotions.
you avoid the task by doing other tasks that don’t bring you those emotions, therefore it is not laziness.

instead of a project for work, you organize your kitchen cabinets.

because it is about the emotions associated with the task, not the task itself.
to rid yourself of procrastinating tendencies, you must find ways to address, and manage, those emotions.

the emotion isn’t always simply stress. it could be grief, anger, traumatic, etc.

so you end up doing something that is also productive but opposite that emotion.
which is why your time management methods don’t always work.

the self doubt & imposter syndrome, which can lead to a depressive state, is what’s keeping you from that work presentation.

not the fact that you’re lazy. you’re not lazy. you just sad.
