I am late to this, but last evening I had a chance to read about the career of @KamalaHarris mother, the late Dr. Shyamala Gopalan & it’s !
She spent over four decades in #BreastCancer research, including at institutions like @UofIResearch @mcgillu & finally, @BerkeleyLab

She was a pioneering scientist on elucidating the role of estrogen & progesterone receptors in the developing mammary gland & in #BreastCancer. In the 1960s, she (along with Jack Gorski) identified that estrogen hormone bound to a receptor (!), a finding that has led to many Rxs.

In an illustrious career at @BerkeleyLab she made numerous important observations on steroid hormone receptors, publishing in @PNASNews, @jbiolchem & other journals. And she did all this while raising a future US senator & her sister! A remarkable woman who passed away in 2009.
