Why I Love Captain Rex: A Thread
I have a lot of favorites in SW, but from when I was just a kid watching the Clone Wars Rex was one of my various favorites. He was exciting to see alongside Ahsoka or Anakin, or just about any other character that I adore.
Rex's development throughout the war is my absolute favorites. At the beginning of the war he's very much like his General. He was reckless, fearless, and an inspiring leader. However you notice how he changes when he comes across Cut Lawquane on Saleucami.
Cut made Rex rethink the whole point of the war with the Lawquane family. About how there was more to life than fighting and dying in a war that the clones never got a choice in.
Rex pretty much questioned the point of the whole thing. The war, what would happen to them afterwards, all of those men died. He's more careful in the later years of the war, looking after his brothers and making sure they were safe.
A headcanon I have for Rex is that the tally marks on his armor isn't the amount of droids he took down, but how many of his men that he's lost.
Speaking of loss, Rex has lost SO many of whom he considered family. Denal, Hevy, Hardcase, Tup, Echo, Fives. He thought Ahsoka was DEAD after Malachore, he never knew what happened to Anakin as far as we know. He even lost Gregor. All he really had left from the war was Wolffe.
Rex's story is a big part of why I love him. He faces so much, loses so much, but still just keeps fighting. Even in Rebels when he's older and tired, feeling as though maybe his time fighting is done, he still does the right thing in helping Ghost Crew fight the Empire.
Besides Rex's story that I love so much, he helped me out of a very low point of my life. I had a really bad break-up that I just seriously couldn't shake off, and it was hard to really put my emotion into anything. That was until I went and rewatched the Clone Wars.
Rex (and Ahsoka) seriously helped me push through and feel a lot better. I had something that I could really enjoy again and talk about. It was nice to watch characters like him get back up and fight back, push through. It was seriously inspiring for me.
Rex still continues to be one of the various characters I look to to keep pushing forward. An inspiring leader who kept moving forward.
Some more things to add, Rex is caring. He cares about his brothers, his General, his Commander. It showed in the way he talked about them in Rebels, and how much it hurt knowing that he lost them. He was also fiercely protective if anyone talked poorly about them.
Rex is SERIOUSLY creative. If you take a look at his armor in the later seasons you can see it's a mixture of phase 1 and phase 2 armor, which he probably welded together himself.
Rex is an inspiring leader, he always does what he believes is right and won't let anyone push him or anyone else around. He takes risks to ensure the safety of others.

"A true leader always leads from the front."
Rex is also a seriously skilled warrior, he's able to adapt to situations and improvise if necessary. He was also SERIOUSLY strong, he was able to throw a spear through not only the Zygerrian Slaver but also THROUGH THE CHAIR.

"I'm no Jedi"
Another thing that I love is that he practically saves his memories, he wants to make his short life worth something. He wants to keep good memories with people he cares about so much. Something to remember them when no one else will.
In conclusion, he's just a beautiful, caring man that literally deserves so much better and more appreciation along with so many other clones. He's a really great character with an amazing story and development, and I'm seriously excited to see him again in season 7.
