Aghorpanth: Breaking some myths (A Thread)

Those who know the spiritual side of me (which is apparently none here I guess as I do not post a lot about it), know about my connection with @GorakhnathMndr. I belong to Nath Sampraday which was formed by Guru Gorakhnath ji.

So in simple words you can say he is my daad guru or dada guru. This is one of the reasons I have deep regard for @myogiadityanath as he is Mahant of Gorakh Math. Gorakhnath ji is also remembered for filling up the gaps between general public and Aghoris.

In Nath Sampraday, we respect Agoris as Sadhus. Their knowledge is beyond what a normal human being can understand. Because of there lifestyle, there are a lot of myths that revolve around them. In this thread, I will post a few facts which I learnt in last 20 years.

"Aghori" word is made of "A" and "Ghori" which means who is not "Ghor" or someone who is simple and straightforward. It is believed that Bhagwan Shiv himself founded Aghor Panth and Bhagwan Dattatray is considered as the Guru of Aghor Shastra.
4/n
Bhagwan Dattatray was son of Maharishi Atri and Devi Anusuya. It is believed that he was incarnation of combined form of Tridev (Brahma, Vishnu and Mahesh).
5/n
Bhagwan Dattatray had two brothers, Rishi Chandra (incarnation of Bhagwan Brahma) and Rishi Durvasa (Incarnation of Bhagwan Shiv). If you research a little bit about Rishi Durvasa, you will find his name mentioned in both Ramayana and Mahabharatha.

Coming back to Aghoris. The following are some facts about Aghoris:
1. They live in Shivpuri as most of their Sandhnas are done at either Shivpuri or in a place where no humans come on regular basis.
7/n
Shivpuri is Shamshan. We do not call it Shamshan. Because both Shiv and Kaali bless Shamshan with their presence, to give respect we call it Shivpuri which means the "home of Shiv".

2. They are loud and they use abusive language too. Their lifestyle remove all the filters that we often put on our thoughts. If you poke them or ask too many questions, they will abuse you. But believe me, they are powerful and can give the blessing you want.

3. Aghor sadhna is mostly done during night time.
4. The mantras involved in Aghor Sadhna sometimes have Om and sometimes are without Om in the beginning. You need to spend a lot of time studying them before you understand the difference.

5. Aghoris don't hesitate in eating flesh of the burning body. They consider it a part of food chain. It is a part of the ritual of their life and if you find any problem with it, it is better you stay out of their way.

6. Baba Keenaram is one of the most popular figures in Aghorpanth. He lived in Kashi for most of his life and was popular for his powers. His guru Baba Kaaluram is believed to be Bhagwan Dattatray himself.

7. Baba Keenaram was born in 1693 in Raghuvansh Kshtriya family in Chandaul. He left home at the age of 11.
8. He was once arrested for asking Bhiksha which was considered against the law under the rule of Nawab of that time.
13/n
He was sent to jail where he was ordered to churn one of the 981 flour mills. As he was already popular for his powers he was asked to churn it without touching it. He took a stick and hit the flour mill and all 981 mills started working on their own.
14/n
This is one of the most popular stories of his life.
9. It is believed that Aghoris are so powerful that they can materialize things from thin air and can convert "Mansahaar" to "Shakahaar".
15/n
10. Augharnath or Aghor form of Shiv is generally shown in Raudra form but in reality it is one of the the most peaceful form of Shiv.

I will post more about them in this thread. Have a good day!
