So I know by definition this can’t be the case, but does anyone else feel that we make an idol out of the Eucharist sometimes?

Like, when it becomes all about the sacred object and not about Jesus himself, disconnected from becoming a new person in community?
Yikes... some of the comments on this thread are proving my point (and disappointing me) more than I expected.

Just because it is God doesn’t mean that everyone approaches it in the correct way. Seriously, people misunderstand and use “God” for their own benefit all the time.
For those who are still confused, a few clarifying comments. (Thread)
I never said that the Eucharist was idolatry. I am not challenging the real presence of Christ or criticizing the practice of Eucharistic adoration. If you read that in what I said, I'm sorry, but I said nothing to that effect at all.
Rather, what this tweet is about is the fact that the act of worship can SOMETIMES be separated from the actual God we worship. This happens when the Eucharist is approached as a "what," a mere object with a magical property called "grace."
But of course, the Eucharist is not an object but a person, a "who," calling us to relationship with him. God's grace is the Holy Spirit, a person that wants us to be more like Christ, following the commands of the Father and living with charity and holiness.
When the Eucharist is merely a prize, something to be obtained to make someone feel morally superior and in no way inspires them to live more like Christ, it is an idol because what one is worshipping is not the real God: it is a creation of ourselves.
The whole point of this thread is to uphold the beauty and power of the Eucharist, not diminish it. We must see that loving the Eucharist means loving Christ's commands, loving one another, and wanting to change. Anything less, and we are not worshipping God in the Eucharist.
