Let’s have a chronological journey through the Kashmir dispute b/w Pakistan and India in @UN Security Council as ‘The India-Pakistan Question’.

This tweet has several parts.

We’ll start with first two resolutions 38 & 39 of UNSC on 17 & 20 Jan 1948.

Attached original UN docs
The first two resolutions were base to the foundation of United Nations Comission for India and Pakistan (UNCIP), which was established to investigate and mediate between the two countries.

3rd resolution 47 was passed on 21 April 1948, detailing strategy to hold a plebiscite.
Resolution 47 is followed with the resolution 52 on 3 June 1948 which instructs the UNCIP to immediately start their work without delay.

Official documents from @MOFAPakistan
The resolution is MOST important in shaping the future of State of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to this resolution @pid_gov agrees to evacuate its troops and nationals from its side of disputed region ( #GilgitBaltistan and #AzadKashmir) and establish local authority under UNCIP
On 5 January 1949, UNCIP adopted its 2nd resolution after acceptance of the principles stated in its earlier resolution on 13 August 1948, by Pakistan and India.

With pending actions to be implemented, UNSC passed another resolution 80 on 14 March 1950, calling upon both governments to make immediate arrangements for demilitarisation within 5 months period.

Also, terminates #UNCIP after achieving agreements between India and Pakistan.
Failing to achieve the demilitarisation of State if Jammu and Kashmir within 5 months, UNSC passed its resolution 91 on 30 March 1951.

This resolution reminded both governments of principles they agreed upon in UNCIP’a resolutions on 13 August 1948 and 5 January 1949. #Kashmir
Note:
Paksitan and India haven’t followed a single clause of these resolutions except agreeing upon a Line-of-Control and cease fire.
