I'm starting a thread with general trading knowledge/tips.
Mostly crypto related though.

I'll regularly come back to this thread.

$BTC loves printing this µ pattern.
It's the result of algo's exiting their positions and other algo's buying it up.

Don't let it shake you out. Don't make your stops too conservative.

These are my 10 rules for trading.
You can make your own, but I think these are pretty solid to start with.

Always go over these rules in your head before you take a trade.

#trading
The 3 main premises of technical analysis:

- Market action discounts anything.
- Price moves in trends.
- History repeats itself.

You need to accept this or you won't be able to do TA properly.
Source:
Open interest (OI) = outstanding derivative contracts.

Price vs OI can give you an idea of how strong or weak the market is.

Bitcoin loves fake-outs or "stop hunts".
This is the result of the big boys trying to engineer liquidity.

Extra notes on the chart (I know it's a lot, but it's an important topic).

#bitcoin #crypto #trading
In traditional markets price often interacts with the 0.382 & 0.618 fib level.
But #cryptocurrencies (not just $BTC) love to interact with the 0.5 fib level.
This works on all time frames.

I added some examples.
To prevent getting stop hunted on Bitmex you can use an "index stop".
This stop-loss is based on the price of the reference exchanges.

This is better because on Bitmex there are often long, crazy wicks because people use high leverage.

All technical indicators are based on price action or volume (or open interest).
Therefore a good trader should be able to tell what's going on just by looking at PA & VOL.

Indicators should only be used to confirm what you were already thinking.

Less is more.

#TA #trading
Don't force a trade.
Don't trade too much.

There is ALWAYS another opportunity.

#trading
No one has ever gone broke from not taking a trade.

Protecting capital is goal No.1 for a trader.

These are the percentages you need to break-even after losing money:

The saying "history repeats itself" exists for a reason.

One of the biggest mistakes you can make as a trader is assuming that markets will suddenly behave differently.

#bitcoin can be traded against most of the big FIAT currencies.
However most #altcoins only have a #BTC pair.

That's why when you trade alts, you should always look at the BTC pair.

If your alt is gaining vs USD, but losing vs BTC, you're better of just hodling bitcoin.
Weekly & monthly opens on #bitcoin more often than not act as key support/resistance levels.

Some give an immediate reaction, others remain relevant even when the week/month has ended.

So when a week/month starts it's useful to draw a horizontal there.

Examples below:
The #RSI is a popular, but often misused indicator to show when an asset is overbought (70 or higher) or oversold (30 or lower).

However in a bull market it's normal that the RSI consistently remains "overbought". This actually indicates strength!

Context is very important.
The 50-55 points zone on the weekly RSI is a key level for #bitcoin .

In bull markets it usually acts as support, in bear markets it usually acts as resistance.
The initial swing high & swing low after a big pump or dump often create a range.

This happens all the time in every market, but it works especially well on $BTC & $ETH.
I would argue that #bitcoin is one of the best assets in the world for pure technical analysis.
But it's always gotta do something "extra".

Here's a pattern that happens regularly.
It's liquidity engineering at its finest.
"Obvious" pennants / flags almost never play out the way you expect them to on #bitcoin and #ethereum.
The Market Maker Profile is a concept initially pitched by ICT if I'm not mistaken.
Over the years this concept has become very widespread.

But you can't find clean models anywhere so I made some.

Crypto derivatives exchanges have something called "funding rates".

It's an important mechanic that has a big impact on #bitcoin price movement.

Quick tip.

When $BTC or $ETH are trending, the first big wick after the mark up tends to become an important s/r level in the future.

A few examples...
Quick tip.

When $BTC consolidates just above support and keeps hugging it, it's almost always a bull trap.
Especially when the consolidation slopes downward.

When bitcoin breaks out, it usually blasts away and doesn't give anyone a chance to get in.
