A Look Back on Boomerang's Amazing Movie Fashion: A Thread
Boomerang is legit one of the greatest romantic comedies of all time. Aside from memorable performances by the cast and its iconic soundtrack, the costume design (courtesy of Francine Jamison-Tanchuck), has held up really well 25 years later. Get into the amazing looks below.
Eddie Murphy plays Marcus Graham, a womanizing Advertising Executive. Layering is the watchword for him as he pairs his suits with stylish coats and complimentary scarves. Even his haircut inspired a legion of playboys who followed suit.
Blazers + Turtleneck sweaters = a classic combination.
Purple seemed to be Marcus' signature color as he sported the royal hue in a number of scenes.
Marcus' more casual outfits were just as amazing as his work wardrobe. Just look at that robe!
Robin Givens' Jacqueline Broyer was the film's real fashion plate as she served look after look. She's the career-driven seductress who humbles Marcus. Her introduction was made memorable in a head-to-toe green outfit. Immaculate.
“When I seduce you, if I decide to seduce you, don’t worry…you’ll know...” The black velvet evening gown Jacqueline wore to the party celebrating the merger made quite an impact. Red lips and nails finished off the look.
Green is a color often associated with power, money and ambition and Ms. Broyer didn't shy away from rocking the shade in an additional three scenes after her first pale number (see tweet above).
Jacqueline favored flashy yet classy business skirt suits. This red one with cutouts is my absolute favorite. The POWER that this had.
After she successfully "pussy whips" Marcus, we see her experiment with her hair for the first time in the movie by styling her hair in an updo. This entire outfit just reminds me of my Mom going to work, lol.
The sweet-natured Angela Lewis (played by a then relatively unknown Halle Berry) has a comforting and charming sense of style. Her favorite accessory is her winning smile. It's interesting to see Halle before she became one of Hollywood's biggest bombshells of all-time.
Angela loved herself some pretty funky hats.
This red hot satin two-piece set Angela wore to Marcus' Thanksgiving dinner looked more like nightwear as outerwear. Who could ever forget that passionate kiss Eddie and Halle shared while watching Star Trek?
This is the outfit Angela wore when she delivered one of the film's most memorable lines. I can literally hear this scene. Raise your hand if you thought she was Toni Braxton singing the movie's theme song?
At the end, we see Angela emerge as the head of the art department for another company. She's self-assured, more confident and the change is reflected in her new look. The hair is sleeker and I love how she and Marcus matched each other with the all black.
Lela Rochon plays Christie, a beautiful airhead who falls for Marcus' tricks. Sis was dedicated to her all-white/beige aesthetic (even the dog matched her outfit, lol).
Despite playing a minor character, Lela rocks one of my favorite outfits in the entire movie. She looked gorgeous in this pink cocktail dress.
