#SwachBharat was a great initiative in the last term of the Modi Govt. It needs to continue.

But in addition we need a similar #QualityIndia initiative. A 'Quality Revolution'.

For too long we have internalised the 'Chalta Hai' attitude in our manufacturing and service sectors.
'Chalta Hai' and 'Jugaad' have resulted in average or often poor quality service in all aspects of our products and services, which we see and use everyday.

And this is not just in the public sector. Private sector too is not at par if we were to compare it with world standards.
'Quality' revolution requires a fundamental culture change. It needs to reflect all aspects of our life and needs to be inculcated from a young age, in schools and later in colleges.

Japan provides a great example (and a gold standard) of a 'Quality' obsessed nation.
After the second world war, Japan wasn't particularly known for quality manufacturing and their products weren't well regarded in the U.S. However, this changed completely over the next 2-3 decades.

Japan introduced various quality control methods as well as a quality culture.
The American engineer and statistican Deming https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._Edwards_Deming played an important role in Japan's quality revolution. (Definitely worth reading about his work and methods).

Today Japan leads the world in not just product quality, but services too (e.g. trains punctuality)
India can learn from Japan and some other international examples. There are some good examples in the private (and even public) sectors in India, which need to be studied and replicated.
Improved quality of our products and services is key for our development as a country, as well as an important requirement to boost our exports and #MakeinIndia initiative.
