I see the hot-take on the #NUFC takeover is to feign outrage at dubious human rights records of the Arab world, and claim NUFC fans should be campaigning against it or taking the moral high ground. Quite a bit of virtue signalling bollocks and thinly veiled xenophobia around 1/6
Lest we forget in one corner of the UK, gay marriage and abortion is illegal, before we saddle up on the old Twitter high horse. Has been for bloody ages too, but we do know Northern Ireland only gets a mention when it's convenient to the English. Elsewhere in the league... 2/6
how about the darlings of football hipster shithousery - Liverpool FC. Owned by the US (since we're ascribing people to States) - the prodigal sons of human rights abuses and who supply most of the weapons and gear used to carry out said abuses in most of the world. 3/6
I'm not trying to get into whataboutery, it just boils my piss a little bit to see the same lazy opinions spouted. As uncomfortable as it may be to admit, we're all hypocrites on some level, and you don't need to dig too deep to find awful things about everyone 4/6
But as an #NUFC fan, I really don't want some retro-shirt-wearing-wannabe twitter revolutionary telling me I can't enjoy the thought of maybe chucking off 11 years of (mostly) misery and having some footballing dreams again. Take your boring, recycled opinions elsewhere. 5/6
PS: I've spent a lot of time in the Middle East. I find the people there to be wonderful. Culturally they're still trying to find their place in the modern world, and inclusion through things like football can only help. I hope my 12 followers have enjoyed this Monday rant 6/6.
