Next time you get your makeup done by a “PRO” MUA make sure they....
1) spraying alcohol on all products that will directly touch you (lip liner, lipstick, glosses need their own disposable wand per each application)
2) do not allow them to blow on their brushes, product, or to try to cure your lash glue. It’s incredibly unsanitary.
If they’re going to be using creams on you (concealer pots, correctors, etc) they need to scrape the product out with a disposable spatula onto a clean surface (palette OR freshly sanitized back of hand) and THEN apply to your face.
MUAs should never use direct product wands unless that’s your product. Even if it’s brand new, it’s questionable for an artist to then put that item back in their kit.
I’m not doing numbers anymore lol.
A PRO MUA will create a comfortable and safe environment for you, get to know you and help achieve your desired look.
All brushes should be clean. It doesn’t matter if there is back to back clients. Either they need to be using spot cleanser & alcohol before each use or have enough brushes to do back to back clients. Ask your MUA to sanitize things in front of you, if they aren’t.
May I add? A lot of freelance makeup artists brings lights with them (and only take client photos in special lighting). Just something to be aware of when booking and getting your service done, make sure you find a source of natural light to check your work in to make sure that
You are satisfied. And if not, speak up. An artist cannot correct what they’re unaware of.
EYELINER:
Gel needs to be scooped out with a spatula and used with a disposable brush or clean liner brush.
Liquid liners need to be poured onto a sanitized surface OR use a disposable liner wand (in a non contaminated bottle).
FELT TIP: I don’t use these for clients.
FOUNDATIONS: If an MUA needs you to bring your own foundations and concealers, consider the price you’re paying for your service. This does not reflect the quality of someone’s work but, a lot of the price of make up does go into the products in the kit. An MUA, in theory...
Needs to have every single product to complete a look for you without the help of the client.
