Back at Ontario Place this evening, and a completely different set of sights: a yellow warbler, chestnut-sided warbler, white-breasted nuthatch, many red-winged blackbirds and swallows, and a little mourning dove 🕊

Ontario Place bird notes #4 | Over 22 species spotted this evening - including many barn swallows, an egret, spotted sandpiper, dozens of cormorants, cliff swallows, chimney swift, gray catbird, cedar waxwings, American goldfinch, and a mink!
Ontario Place bird (& wildlife) notes #5 | New sights this evening - two Gadwall ducks among a group of cormorants, ring-billed gulls, and a mute swan. And a beaver!
Ontario Place bird notes #6 | Finally signed up for an ebird account... This evening quite a few yellow warblers, two eastern kingbirds, eastern phoebes, cormorants, a common tern, and many grackles, robins, barn swallows, & red-winged blackbirds.
Ontario Place bird notes #7 | Noticeably busier but unfortunately still flooded in parts. This evening - dozens of Canada geese & barn swallows, yellow warblers, American goldfinch, cormorants, terns, an eastern phoebe, robins, & mallards. And a sweet baby red-winged blackbird 🌊
Ontario Place bird notes #8 | A hot morning down by the lake. Lots of Canada geese, starlings, and grackles. Also a few yellow warblers, a Baltimore oriole, and frantic cliff swallows gathering mud for nests 🌿
Ontario Place bird notes #9 | Have been out of the city a lot recently, but back on a warm evening. Lots of house finches, couple of cedar waxwings, immature & adult yellow warblers and american goldfinches, a spotted sandpiper, warbling vireos, and a white mallard (domestic?)
Ontario Place bird notes #10 | The West Island is a small space for so many little environments - a mourning dove, spotted sandpiper, many cedar waxwings, lots of bold chickadees, a female Baltimore oriole, tree and barn swallows, yellow warbler, and a black and white warbler 🌲
Ontario Place bird notes #11 | It’s a little more complicated to get around right now with so much going on - but still spotted a downy woodpecker, Baltimore orioles, warbling vireos, many cormorants, song sparrows, a blue-gray gnatcatcher, and a gray catbird.
Ontario Place bird notes #12 | An evening strangely quiet of people and birds - maybe from the looming rainclouds. Mostly various swallows, mallards, Canada geese, a song sparrow, grackle, caspian tern, American goldfinches, and a blue-winged teal duck (top left).
Ontario Place bird notes #13 | Noticeably getting darker much earlier - lots of juvenile starlings in the sumac trees, a great egret fishing, a tiny baby American goldfinch in the grass, a few mourning doves, and dozens of mallards and ring-billed gulls.
Ontario Place bird notes #14 | Stayed around Trillium Park this evening, and lots of bird noise on a quieter night. A song sparrow, juvenile cardinals, a common yellowthroat, yellow-bellied flycatcher, and a few warblers I couldn’t quite photograph - palm warbler top left?
Ontario Place bird notes #15 | Beautiful sunset, but already feels too early. Juvenile black-crowned night heron, common yellowthroat, hooded mergansers, blue-winged teal duck, terns, and cormorants.
Ontario Place bird notes #16 | It really felt like autumn this evening 🍃A yellow-rumped warbler, blue-gray gnatcatchers, a Philadelphia vireo, cormorants, black and white warblers, a downy woodpecker, American redstarts, an eastern wood-pewee, cormorants, and a magnolia warbler.
Ontario Place bird notes #17 | I think this egret has been down by the water almost every evening. Also a downy woodpecker, American redstarts, bay breasted warbler, yellow-rumped warbler, mute swans, warbling vireos, and a grey catbird.
Ontario Place bird notes #18 | *Many* white-crowned sparrows, black-throated blue and green warblers, yellow rumped warblers, a yellow-bellied sapsucker (juvenile) and a yellow-bellied flycatcher, eastern phoebes, black & white warbler, common yellowthroats, and a Canada warbler!
Ontario Place bird notes #19 | Two new sights (winter wren and ruby-crowned kinglet) early this morning brings the species count here up to 63! Also pine, palm, yellow-rumped, and magnolia warblers, a yellow-bellied sapsucker, eastern phoebes, and golden-crowned kinglets.
Ontario Place bird notes #20 (!) | *Lots* of yellow-rumped warblers, a couple of palm warblers, white-crowned and white-throated sparrows, a black-throated green warbler, a brown creeper, and a ruby-crowned kinglet.
Ontario Place bird notes #21 | From last week, an afternoon full of golden-crowned kinglets, white-crowned sparrows, yellow-rumped warblers, and the clearest photos I’ve managed to take so far of a brown creeper that is normally around the West Island.
Ontario Place bird notes #22 | This morning I thought the same hawk was following my path, but then realised both a red-tailed and a juvenile Cooper’s hawk were around (so close!) Also a couple of ruby-crowned kinglets, and lots of white-throated sparrows and dark-eyed juncos.
Ontario Place bird notes #23 | Mostly a winter duck edition - gadwalls, goldeneyes, greater scaups, redheads, long-tailed ducks, mallards, common and red-breasted mergansers, and what appeared to be an Iceland gull. Also a beaver which swam right by the path.

Ontario Place bird notes #25 | A solitary walk before heading back indoors for the weekend. Sounds of screeching grackles and red-winged blackbirds everywhere, cardinals, golden-crowned kinglets, and all the usual winter ducks. Also a mink and a beaver hanging out nearby.
Ontario Place bird notes #26 | Happy first day of Spring! From this grey and extremely quiet lakeshore park. Large count this evening - buffleheads, long-tailed ducks, red-breasted mergansers, house finches, redheads, gadwalls, many red-winged blackbirds, and a killdeer.

Ontario Place bird notes #34 | Hundreds of Barn and Cliff Swallows, a family of sleeping Canvasbacks, Great Blue Heron’s fishing, Killdeer, Cedar Waxwings, Baltimore Orioles, and many Song Sparrows.
Ontario Place bird notes #35 | The Canvasbacks are still around, hadn’t see the Egret in a while, and the cinesphere is covered with Cliff and Barn Swallows. Also this morning - Killdeer, Goldfinches, Chickadees, Cedar Waxwings, Common Terns and a Chipping Sparrow.
Ontario Place bird notes #36 | Early quiet mornings. Common terns, Eastern Kingbirds, tiny Cedar Waxwings, Spotted Sandpipers, Chimney Swifts, Warbling Vireos and Blue-grey Gnatcatchers.
Ontario Place bird notes #37 | Noticeably quieter, and fewer swallows, but a handful of warblers have returned! A couple of Gray Catbirds, Northern Cardinals, Spotted Sandpipers, Mallard ducklings, Least Flycatcher, Eastern Kingbirds and a Blackburnian and Pine Warbler.

Ontario Place bird notes #39 | Many more warblers this week, autumn migration is underway. A Wilson's Warbler and an Olive-sided Flycatcher (two lifers!), lots of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, Great Crested Flycatchers, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, American Redstarts and a Carolina Wren.
Ontario Place bird notes #40! | A year & a half into this thread & still seeing birds I haven't seen in this location before. This week a Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Solitary Sandpiper, Merlin, & Common Nighthawk. Also around are returning Dark-eyed Juncos & Ruby-crowned Kinglets.
