You know what the worst thing about TERFs arguing transphobia is nothing like homophobia is?

A generation ago their antecedents WERE HOMOPHOBES

Here's Carol Hanisch on gay men in the 1970s arguing men were only going gay because they hated women so much:

Hanisch was a member of the Redstockings, a radical feminist collective, coiner of the phrase "the personal is political"

One of the things she meant by that was seeing relationships as the battlefield for feminism, and therefore both lesbians and gay men as counterrevolutionary

Lesbians were bad because they were surrendering in the fight for equality from husbands, like quitting your factory job permanently rather than joining the union

Gay men were worse - the equivalent of managers inventing a factory that didn't need workers

If this concept of seeing sex, romance and partnership as a labor-management relationship sounds horribly oppressive and obviously untenable to you - if your reaction is to say "What the hell business is it of yours if I'm gay" - then you see the problem with "radical feminism"

Anyway what's amazing is that all of the tropes used against trans women were already used against gay men

The whole "delusional, trying to escape reality" thing? They said that about gay men too

The concern trolling about "trans widows" as the real victim of their spouse's transition? Is what they used to say about men who left their wives because they were gay

The term "genderfree", arguing that "gender" doesn't really exist and is something invented by the patriarchy and AFAB people admitting they have a gender always leads to their oppression?

They said the *exact* same thing about "sexuality"

Ti-Grace Atkinson, founder of the NY chapter of NOW, and a "political lesbian" and promoter of the "lesbian sex wars", famously said "The institution of sexual intercourse is anti-feminist"

She went on to argue that "lesbian" could not be a "sexuality" because to concede that humans were sexual beings was to concede that women deserved oppression

Why? Well you have to read the whole book to find out

This isn't even saying that TERFs sound like these people - TERFs *are* these people

Carol Hanisch and Ti-Grace Atkinson are still around, unembarrassed by the shit they used to say about gay men and "non-political" lesbians

They co-created the big 2013 TERF open letter "Forbidden Discourse" arguing that people who were "against gender" were being "silenced", which we can see as the first shot in the current TERF wars
