Yesterday we were walking in the Pyrenees, very hot and bothered, trying to find an abbey. We were feeling a bit lost when this fellow popped up to say hello.
He immediately started leading the way up the road towards a dirt path. What could go wrong, we said? Let's follow this dog.
We thought perhaps he just happened to be going the same way as us and we'd diverge paths soon. There's no way a dog would adopt two strangers and show them the way to an abbey, we thought.
But every time we stopped to tie a shoelace or take a picture of the view, Adventure Dog (as we began to call him) would stop impatiently and wait for us to catch up before leading the way again.
Adventure Dog took us along a canal.
For two kilometres. Where we reached a siphon.
Then he led us down a hill. Until.... voilà. L'Abbaye Saint Michel de Cuxa.
At this point we began to worry that Adventure Dog had strayed too far from home, so we called the number on his collar. The man on the other end laughed and told us he lived near the abbey, and to tap him on the nose and say "Go home!"
We did, and after a few unsuccessful attempts to follow us into the abbey, Adventure Dog eventually did as he was told and trotted off.
Thanks, Adventure Dog!
