Thread about China, Huawei. Spying & World war 5(g).
You're about to become the head of your own Intel Agency. You'll be an authority and you'll win any bar fight argument.
Let’s begin...
The Communist Party intends to control 90% of the most advanced industries in the world, including robotics, biotechnology & artificial intelligence. In order to be able to dominate the economy of the 21st century, Beijing has urged its officials & companies to obtain US
intellectual property - the basis of our economic leadership - by all necessary means” VP Pence
5g is fought for the world’s economy. By 2024, around 40 percent of the world’s population — & 22 billion devices, from cars to refrigerators to cellphones to traffic lights, will be on the 5G network.
Only a few companies are advanced enough of to make the systems & manufacture transmission equipment
2 are Chinese: ZTE & Huawei
1 Korean: Samsung
1 Finnish: Nokia
1 Swedish: Ericsson
America has ONE: Qualcomm, which would have to import equipment
Euro telecom companies are less profitable than the U.S. counterparts. EU Regulatory opposition to merger activity left Europe with co's too weak to pursue big infrastructure projects. Falling prices squeezed their profit margins.
The EU companies were left financially exhausted, they cannot afford to make the equipment, to lay fiber optic cables & to install.
🔥 intermission! this is a dog I met
Huawei has the revenue of Microsoft & makes as many phones as Apple. In China, all major industry is subsidized by the State, Chinese Communist Party. It’s presses run 25 hours a day cranking out dubious Yuan. China has plenty of money.
Huawei came in as the impossibly low cost provider. Philippines/Mexico/Portugal/Italy took the bait. The UK is pondering it. As there is no standard yet for 5g, if Huawei wins it is possibly insurmountable advantage, they will own the future.
Huawei CFO was recently indicted. The indictment states: “established a formal schedule for rewarding employees for stealing information from competitors based upon the confidential value of the information obtained. Employees were directed to post confidential information...
obtained from other companies on an internal Huawei website, or, in the case of especially sensitive information, to send an encrypted email to a special email mailbox”
Yeesh
To satisfy Euro’s concerns, Huawei offered to set up labs in Euro & UK to facilitate reviews of code & gear to reassure there is no ‘spy’ back door.

But source code could easily cloak vulnerabilities & frequent software updates in 5G networks will outpace regulatory oversight.
The Intelligence sharing partners of US have recommended against Huawei. UK has still not made a decision. Why?
If Euro/UK rule against Huawei, it would boost Nokia & Ericsson/create 10s of k of Euro jobs.
Why is UK plotting forward w/Huawei? MONEY http://www.mobilenewscwp.co.uk/2015/02/16/huawei-appoints-three-non-executive-directors-to-its-uk-board/
Euro has done little internal development of AI, robots & startups.
China has, they are leading in new patents.
If America & Europe do not compete, the 5g market will be cartelized by China Within the US, 75% of ppl have only one provider for speeds higher than 25 Mbps.
In the last 17 years, we spent over $2t in Afghanistan alone instead of investing in research, infrastructure or education.
China spent that much internally, investing in science, infrastructure, and technology.
We still lead! The country w/ most techies in AI wins. US is first, China is 7th. AI depends on training algos using massive databases. US firms dominate, an advantage China is trying to resolve by relentless cyberhacking & IP theft. This is another reason the US must stop them
In China, innovation is funded by the government, In the US it's private industry, mostly Silicon Valley and VC's
But...those biz people are not interested in large investments in basic research which cannot be commercialized or is too small to merit investment.
Now Andy works for Huawei
