I agree with Warren's boycott of appearing on Fox News for the reasons she expressed, looking at the big picture of not wanting to legitimize its hate-for-profit programming. But I also support candidates who choose to go on Fox News, for another audience we don't often consider-
I would say that the type of people who find Fox News appealing are also often the type who have an authoritarian bent. The type who impose their wills on others. Let's acknowledge that Fox News is airing full-time in households where not everyone living there likes Fox News.
I want to acknowledge the spouses, the children, the teens, the siblings, etc. who are not allowed, by some domineering member(s) of the household, to watch anything except Fox News, and who do not agree, or think they might not agree, with the hateful content of Fox News.
I think it's foolish for a Dem to go on Fox News and think they'll turn around hardcore fans. But if you want to go on Fox News, and speak to the family and household members who are stuck watching Fox News bc of some authoritarian jackass in their household, I'm fine with that.
We think about authoritarians and toxic conservatives grouping together only with like-minded people. But you're likely to find a lot of overpowered people of moderate or progressive views living in close quarters with them, as spouses, sons, daughters, or other family.
I used to be a therapist & meet clients in their homes. A lot of authoritarians are paired up w/ people who don't really want to be w/ them. It's useless for a Dem to try to engage w/ a hardcore conserv thru Fox New, but you can talk to some of the other people in the living room
