It doesn’t matter to AL that the abortion ban is unconstitutional because the plan has always been to challenge the constitution. They want to take this fight right up to the Supreme Court and use Kavanaugh as the final vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. This is years in the making.

Kavanaugh’s confirmation only dominated headlines after his sexual assault was revealed (& it was good that it did). Up until then, the narrative was “intellectuals” vs. alarmists. Despite his anti-abortion & birth control history, he was going to sail through like Neil Gorsuch.

Kavanaugh’s views on birth control tell you what’s coming next. He authored the dissenting opinion in the DC Circuit’s 2015 ruling on the ACA’s birth control benefit. He believed employers have the right to deny their employees health insurance coverage for birth control.

Kavanaugh being anti-birth control didn’t raise eyebrows b/c it didn’t seem like a threat. How could birth control access be under attack?

-family planning is bipartisan
-the ACA made it no-cost
-there’s a whole federal program dedicated to it

Well there’s a plan there too.

The administration issued rules to

-dismantle the Title X birth control program
-let health care providers deny patients birth control
-let jobs/colleges deny birth control coverage

A cynical nod to funders or the admin’s actual beliefs? Doesn’t matter, the result is the same.

Make no mistake, the anti-abortion extremists in bed with the Trump-Pence admin are anti-birth control too

Sure it’s controversial now but so was being anti-abortion in the years after Roe v. Wade

So they couch it in language about conception & pray you don’t connect the dots

Abortion is just the beginning. If Roe v. Wade is overturned with specious arguments invoking “conception” & “unborn life,” they’ve primed the ground to ban birth control too.
