All right #ClimateBrawl #ClimatePals #ClimateTips followers, here's your chance to get to know a few things about me, and why I'm here on Twitter.

It's a few minute's read so please settle in, grab a bevvy or snack, and join me for a bit of a one-on-one chitchat.

/1 Thread! :-)
2/ This has been on my mind all day, and I've taken some time tonight to write it all down. It's not TOO long, but important, as it's about ethics, purpose, and transparency to both: of how being YOU on Twitter is so critical to truth.

We're ONLY what we say online, as they say.
3/ First, my name is indeed Peter, and I believe in the system of scientific investigation that allows humanity to discover the wonders of our universe.

I live on Canada's West coast. In 2018 I decided to stop watching trolls attack climate science and DO something about it...
4/ I'm a private citizen, not involved in any political party or organization. I can only relate my own personal experience defending science against trolls as well as educating the public.

I'm not paid to spend my time on social media in any way, nor do I make any money here.
5/ The future is the Reason why I'm here on Twitter.

I'm the guy sitting at the Climate Change booth handing out brochures, calmly educating people on what it's all about and what THEY can do. No shouting, no preaching, no scolding:

"Here's where we all are now. Please help."
6/ I'm not a climate scientist, so I don't pretend to be: that's a quick way to get important things WRONG, and I'm here to promote GOOD science: the facts and evidence please, not my bad interpretation of such.

So I defer to experts, and I learn like crazy every chance I get.
7/ I'll be honest: it takes a lot of time EVERY day to defend the places I've staked out, and realizing that those are only a TINY portion of all such facing an onslaught of trolls attacking science, fact and reason is hard to face sometimes.

But I do it for all the good people.
8/ But enough about why I'm here: let's talk about what I do when I AM here.

Today, a random account started asking questions about me and a few other people using the #climatebrawl tags, as well as the 2 tags I created last week ( #climatepals and #climatetips) to help educate.
9/ The attached image is one of their many odd tweets, which I first dismissed as some random troll (and they still likely are).

However, what they were asking was actually important to listen to, at least in terms of WHY they were asking it: they claimed to be confused by me.
10/ I believe they tried to be disruptive, but it was an opportunity to talk about being ethical on social media: being a person whose words reflect one's character, promoting your beliefs and values without harm.

Yet the wise should always wonder why people are on Twitter:
11/ I'm a trusting person, but over years I've become quite adept at parsing what people AREN'T saying on social media.

It's a VITAL skill to develop, as you never know who's playing a long game of trying to con your trust, to use it to their advantage.

It pays to be cautious.
12/ I tell you this to be transparent as to why I'm here.

Not to play word games, but by promoting GOOD science, ETHICAL behaviours, useful articles about life and everything WE need to work TOGETHER to halt manmade climate change.

This planet has more than enough for us all.
13/ Now, @ DosSantosDiasPR might be legit in their worry about PR trolls.

Education (as in all things) is a solid way for folks to tell who's trying to scam you. That's why I created #climatetips, to give examples of such as I find them.

Be informed, but not ALWAYS suspicious.
14/ Educate yourself about climate science basics, the MANY common misconceptions that trolls use, as well as common logical fallacies in debates.

Being able to spot trolla after a few tweets (or FBook sentences) is a superpower these days, much akin to a good ol' BS-Detector.
15/ I truly believe that we CAN halt manmade climate change.

It's not going to be quick or easy, but it IS the only sane choice we have.

Jon Q. Public's become aware of the Climate Crisis in all it's ugly forms, and more are DOING something about it in 2019 than ever before.
16/ When I'm not on Twitter or elsewhere, I'm busy creating useful resources that I'll be sharing to help create ACTION among people wanting to help.

Talking about MMCC is a vital part of that, so I hope you'll stick around.

**I promise not to flood your feed TOO much of a day!
17/ Lastly, here's my /Thread from May 1st 2019 about what I hope to do here on Twitter, of how I hope you'll join me & all the brave ordinary folks out there who want a better world than the Upside-Down we're in right now.
