Chicago “Oblock” 63rd to 65th king-drive, formerly known as “White City Amusement Park”. “White city Amusement Park” was A very successful racist whites only museum built in 1905 where black people weren’t allowed at. The only time black were allowed in the museum is if they
participated in a racist game called “African Dip”. African dip was a game were white people threw “Fruits” at black peoples heads, which resulted to them falling into the dirty water beneath them. In 1933 “white city Amusement Park” closed due to a string of fires which resulted
in thousands of dollars worth of damages which resulted in the museum going bankrupt. One part of white city stayed open “White city Roller ring” where black People weren’t allowed to skate at. The roller ring become a place where black leaders use to protest at to fight for
equal rights. After over another decade of racism prevented black people from moving into the Woodlawn area where “White city museum” was located at. Black leaders had enough, the congress of racial equality sued the skating ring in 1946 which opposed the continued discrimination
against blacks. In 1948 the U.S supreme court ruled racial zoning laws unconstitutional allowing black to move into the woodlawn & the grand crossing neighborhoods. The roller rink later closed in 1949. When black people started moving into these areas, white people started
moving out taking all of their companies, jobs and finances from a 90% black neighborhood. In the early 1950s the chicago housing authorities started working on a new project with the promise of suppling black folks with a comfortable and affordable for black families looking
for homes after the second great migration. The project was a 35 building complex, 694- unit known as “Parkway Garden projects”, aka “Oblock”. These projects sits on the same land where the “White city Amusement Park” once stood. Now in the present day in parkway garden,
the irony is our people are killing each other to represent a neighborhood that was literally built inside of a white city where games were played to disregard black as nothing more than a formal white entertainment. #Oblock #chiefkeef #parkwaygarden #racism #racist #blackpeople
