“Game of thrones is known for sex scenes, killings and violence.
Christians shouldn’t be watching it.”
A liddu beet of a long thread, but worth it.
Let’s talk about this for a minute.

In my honest opinion, except for areas where the Bible is very clear on issues, you may not exactly be able to always draw out clear black and white lines.
There is such a spectrum where you decide for yourself what is lawful but not expedient.
You decide FOR YOURSELF. You can’t project your own decisions on others unless it’s a thing that’s clearly spelt out in the Bible.

Game of Thrones is a TV series that teaches lots and lots of life lessons. It’s also probably the best TV series to hit this world. It’s honestly the biggest thing to be watched, anticipated and immensely enjoyed by the entire world.
Unbelievable levels of talent by EVERY ACTOR on the show.
So many life lessons taught and learnt.
Expression of mind-blowing creativity in bringing to life a story that takes the whole world by storm.
Pure, undiluted entertainment at it’s finest.
The list goes on and on.

To ignore all these and instead, focus on the sex scenes and killings and decide that they are reason enough not to watch the show is your prerogative.
Others may be able to ignore what you’re focusing on and focus on what you’re ignoring.

This show has managed to bring to bear, all the emotions and behavioral patterns known to mankind. It has given entertainment on a whole different level, so I don’t see how it can be easily discarded by a Christian because fragments of the show are carnal.
We do live in a carnal world and are surrounded by lots of carnal things, but carnal isn’t necessarily bad. It’s just ‘not spirit’.
Also, Paul uses the word ‘carnal’ to talk about material things and even expresses a sense of desire or need for them sometimes (context)

He also addresses carnality however in a different light. “To be carnally minded is death...”, “The carnal mind is enmity against God...” and many more.
What do you see here?? I’ll tell you what I see.

Carnal things are not always bad, but to be minded after them, obsessed, consumed and filled with desire for them...that’s a problem because they will draw you away like it happened with Demas.

For instance, you’ve heard many times, “MONEY IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL”
That’s not what the Bible says. It says “The LOVE OF money is the root of all evil.”
Money can’t be evil. We need it to do many things, even in and for the cause of the gospel.

Money is another carnal thing.
To love carnal things generally brings problems for a Christian. Not the existence, occasional use or maybe even moderate enjoyment of some carnal things.
Alcohol for example.

Isn’t it weird that Drunkenness is a sin, yet the first miracle Jesus performed in His earthly ministry was providing EXCESS wine which was wayyyy more ALCOHOLIC that what they started with? Which was the most Alcoholic one they had?
Of course that miracle was symbolic for Jesus and applies in a different context, but the entire situation works perfectly as an example here.
While some may occasionally enjoy a moderate(not unto drunkenness) quantity of alcohol, to be obsessed or addicted is bad.

I get it. “Guard your heart with all diligence...”
But is it what you watch or don’t watch that will keep your heart steady? Or is it the amount of time you spend fortifying your spirit with the powerful words of scripture and the power generated in prayer?

For a Christian who does daily bible study and prayer very diligently and extensively, as well as other extras, is it GOT that will derail you?
GOT airs for about an hour once a week, for 8-10 weeks, once a year.
You mean that’s enough to streep you eweh?

I definitely can’t say so for myself. Are there seeds sown in the heart when we watch things? Yes.
But we see all kinds of terrible things we can’t control in the world anyways.
I believe we steady our hearts by staying true to devotion(bible study and prayer).

So, in conclusion, guard your heart not just by not watching or listening to certain things, but by continually renewing your mind such that you are consumed with love and desire for the spiritual.
The rest will not have a root point.
The rest will not have a root point.
Check the things you watch. Check the things you listen to.
Weigh them in a balance. Which and which is influencing your character and outlook to life? Whichever is taking your entire focus from Jesus is not worth it.
The rest, I think are permissible.
