[ A thread about Dionysus and all of its correlations to #BTS and #MAP_OF_THE_SOUL_PERSONA ]
Dionysus was a Greek God. He was known as the vegetation god especially vines. But he was often underrated and/or missunderstood.
What he represented was way deeper than just drunkenness and parties, and we will see how and why in this thread.
First of all, he was depicted in a vast range of bodies : both feminine and masculine, enfant and adult.
It was even said that he dressed as women to mask his gender.
BTS chosing him knowing he is often described as womanly, can be seen as growth : finally embracing their Anima.
DIONYSUS had many encounters with death, the underworld.
It is said that his mother died while still pregnant with him, and so Zeus sewed him to his thigh so he would live.
He is the Twice born God.
Regeneration.
He also had a terrible death : he was torn to pieces (Some say he looked at the DIONYSIAN MIRROR* and the truth about his true self broke him). But he was always brought back to life. Facing one's true self, death and resurrection. https://twitter.com/sdanatnatstst/status/1119043461850763265?s=19
Another main theme about Dionysus was intoxication.
Being God of wine, he had the power to save and to destroy, just like alcohol.
Jung discussed this (2nd pic) concluding that behind the desire of intoxication is actually a need of individuation
(His worship(👍): see below)
In Dionysus' lyrics, BTS talks both about REBIRTH. And about INTOXICATION with ART and the troubles of creating it. And so according to Jung, they are controlled by their desire for rebirth. They are on their individuation path, on their way to self-development.

Falling and-
Falling and standing again as they get resurrected each time... Direct reference to JAMAIS VU !!! (And also to the webtoon as Jin lives the same day again each time one of them dies : Resurrection)
(Here is a small thread about the meaning of jamais vu) https://twitter.com/sdanatnatstst/status/1115305359198052352?s=19
Knowing that Dionysus is also the god of Theatre, as he inspired it's development in greek.
BTS being in touch with him would moreover deepen the emotionality of their work and broaden the dramatic feel. Making their art more impactful.
(The flex tho 🙌) https://twitter.com/OfficialMwave/status/1118823403366912000?s=19
Dionysus ( chaos, absurdity and emotion ) is also seen as the "opposite" of Apollo ( rules, patern and rationality ). But both of them are necessary. And that's why mortal worshippers prayed to both in order to achieve a balance in their lives.
Maenads are the female followers of Dionysus during his trips..... ( Bangwools got exposed 😭🤷 ) https://twitter.com/sdanatnatstst/status/1119055698162343938?s=19
Thyrsos is the scepter/wand of DIONYSUS and his followers.
...

Seriously though they did that...
Also it was a weapon who drove people to madness. https://twitter.com/sdanatnatstst/status/1118851227184521222?s=19
Dionysus was seen by some as the "force of Life" : As Dionysus was not only Life. But Also Death. And Rebirth.
He went to the underworld (death) many times and came back.
It is also said that he is the masculine counterpart of Persephone (the goddess of death and springtime)
Dionysus helps us understand some of our inside battles.
He is the spark of revoluting life inside us.
Maintaining a nice high-end tightly controlled PERSONA for a long time will bring dionysian forces out and make the self break free of his limits.
For He is the Liberator.
And so Dionysus being the last Song of the album is not a coincidence.
It shows that at the end of this album that was considered to be the Persona of BTS, there is a breakdown/a revolution/ the freeing of the Self, maybe even of the Shadow.
This is the death before the Rebirth.
BTS also relates to Dionysus on a more personal level :
1-

Although part of the 12 Gods of Olympus, Dionysus is seen as an outsider.
----- because of 2 reasons( check next tweet)-----

And Although BTS is part of the kpop industry, they are seen as outsiders.
Reason 1 :
He was born from a mortal mother. ( Olympian gods considered themselves Superior to mortals.)

BTS came from a small company. Not a part of the big three.
Reason 2 :
Dionysus liked to wander the Earth to spread his cult. The Gods considered that as a lowlife thing unworthy of their status.

BTS wanted their music to touch the whole world, not just SK.
They were blamed then for giving up their korean identity.
2-

Dionysus is the God of the misfits, liberating his followers from the contraints of society.

BTS questions and challenges societal rules and encourages us to be ourselves, to love ourselves and to follow our dreams and by that not surrendering to society's pressure.
3-

Dionysus lived with humans, having a spiritual contact with him through rituals.

BTS are humble Kings. PERIODT.
Concerts and lives/logs... Bond us to them.
Also tae's stare can possess anyone and cause not only madness but death too 🤷💀
One of the most striking things I just found out !!!!
(Jesus was compared to Dionysus many times & mainly coz of rebirth)

Dionysus considered that Life/Humans had divinity implanted within them...
Jesus said "The kingdom of heaven is inside you"

MIKROKOSMOS reference !!!!! 😭
I will be talking more about Mikrokosmos in this thread : https://twitter.com/sdanatnatstst/status/1119787079033028608?s=19
Dionysus is also God of epiphany :
Jin was bound to reveal the real self he was keeping hidden under a mask -a persona- because of the dionysian effect (that targets those who seek rules & stiff control)
Inducing a death of that persona + looking for the MAP OF THE SOUL: Rebirth.
On another small note 🙌🤷🤷 :
The dionysic festival is in spring, since Dionysus is God of vegetation.

The album was released on the start of spring 💜
🌺🌸🌺 12th April 🌺🌸🌺
PSYCHOLOGICAL REBIRTH :
Is a Jungian concept ~😭 I'm mind blown 😭~
It is INDIVIDUATION or METANOIA : dissolution :
Unbearable inner conflict ~ meltdown ~ Rebirth.
DIONYSUS represents the PSYCHOLOGICAL REBIRTH through the UNDERWORLD DEPTHS.
(according to James Hillman who was the most influential JUNGIAN theorist after JUNG himself)

And so: Dionysus represents INDIVIDUATION !
(+Don't forget that dionysus did accept his anima -bisexuality-)
Okay I'm sorry if I confused anyone, but here's a little resume :
Inner conflict between outside rules/persona and the ego/shadow will activate the Dionysian effect resulting in a Death/Breakdown and then a Rebirth.
And this whole process is Individuation, a concept by Jung.
Based on the analysis above : My theory : This album as many realized, is built so that the "you" would be referring to ARMYs, a potential lover OR (how Dr @murraywsteinII and @jungianLaura pointed out) to BTS' own self.
I think the album as a whole is The Persona itself: 1/
