You wonder if WL wonders why this guy is claiming to have already given them files if this is the first they've heard of him, but maybe they figure he could be responsible for anonymous drops they've received..

Afterall, Assange did announce 6/12/16 they had more material related to Hillary Clinton, but there's no telling what he was referring to (Podesta, DNC, something never released?)

Someone (G2) pretends to be a Hacker who's really bad at pretending to not be Russian. (can't be too obvious).
G2 publishes a few innocuous docs to prove he has access to the DNC servers.

Hardly bombshell stuff. According to Mueller, they too reach out to WikiLeaks 6/14/16, the same day the WaPo publishes the story revealing to the world that Russia hacked the DNC.

So I think we can rule out DC Leaks as being the source of whatever Assange referenced on 6/12/16 as well.

A British teen who had very creative ways of getting into US Government head's emails. Nothing too sophisticated. Various forms of phishing. He would always give the emails to.... You guessed it... Wikileaks!

He's due to be getting out very soon. I don't know how he ties in, if at all. But he was still a free man during all this. At the very least it shows this did not require a state intelligence apparatus. /END

Possible, I suppose, that Assange was simply referring to more Clinton FOIA materials, and that the GRU officers behind G2 claimed falsely in their first blog post to have already given the material to WikiLeaks, but then a month later decided to really do it. . ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯ ...
^ That's the only way the Mueller timeline can be correct
