Over Only Fools & Horses, The Goodies, Pigeon Street, Grange Hill, Swap Shop, The Two Ronnies, Match Of The Day, Doctor Who? Yes I said Pigeon Street! You tell me that theme isn't a banger! https://twitter.com/guardian/status/1117074997363736576
The Pigeon Street theme is a banger!
The Goodies theme is a banger!
Phil Lynott's Yellow Pearl theme for Top Of The Pops. Banger!
As iconic as the third theme for The Goodies is, the first version is the best. I will not discuss opposing views on this!
Kojak theme. Banger!
Round The Twist theme. Banger!
World Of Sport theme by Jeff Wayne. This is a great theme! CHOOOOOOOON!
Everybody that mentioned the theme to The Poddington Peas is correct. It's officially a banger!
The theme tune to Dave Allen At Large is another banger!
The theme to Test Match Special on the BBC back in the old days. Banger!
The theme to Sorry is also a banger!
The theme to The Prisoner. Another banger of a theme. Ron Grainer was a genius.
The theme to 'You Rang M'Lord?' is good actually. Bob Monkhouse and Paul Shane on vocals.
The original Grange Hill theme. Come on now! It had to be here on the list. A banger! Especially as one famously shows up in the opening titles.
Scooby Doo, Where Are You! This theme is another banger! Bookmark this. The 50th anniversary of the very first episode and appearance of Scooby Doo is in September.
The theme to Prisoner Cell Block H.
The Hi-de-Hi theme is a banger!
The 'Are You Being Served?' theme is a banger! An early rap song (it's not). The construction of this is masterful from Ronnie Hazelhurst. From the theme alone you know what it's about. Great music but the cash register & floor announcements make it perfect.
The Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em theme is another memorable masterpiece from Ronnie Hazelhurst. Rumoured for years that the notes to the theme were the letters of Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em in Morse code, it was proven to be true in 2007 by people at 6 Music. http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/7026637.stm
More TV theme greatness from Ronnie Hazelhurst. Yes Minister & To The Manor Born. I put these two together because it's like John Williams' Superman & Star Wars themes to me. Let me explain. It's where you start out humming one but end up humming the other. Oh. Just me then? 🤔
The legendary Match Of The Day theme by Barry Stoller is a banger! Not just a theme for #MOTD but for football. This was its 2nd theme & when it was introduced in 1970 there were complaints! They tried to update the arrangement twice, viewers complained each time. Untouchable.
The theme to Chorlton and The Wheelies. Banger! The first series made by Cosgrove Hall Productions which was based in Chorlton in Manchester. I wonder how they came up with the name for the dragon? Hmmm. 🤔
The theme to Jamie and The Magic Torch. Another banger! And another series by Cosgrove Hall. Maybe this was their first series instead of Chorlton. I can't remember. Do remember them being the same year though. 1976.
The theme to 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads?' is....yes a banger!
The theme to Dogtanian and The Three Muskehounds. You know the drill. It's a banger!
Then the people that made Dogtanian followed it up with Around The World With Willy Fog. And of course it makes it onto the list of banging TV themes.
Another early 80s cartoon with a great theme was Ulysses 31. That cartoon was a bit creepy wasn't it? 😬
Then the makers of Ulysses 31 followed it up with The Mysterious Cities Of Gold and another memorable theme.
You could always rely on Gerry & Sylvia Anderson productions having great themes. The most famous, and arguably best, has to be Thunderbirds. The theme itself is superb but adding the countdown at the start makes the whole thing epic. Yes, this theme tune is a banger!
Captain Scarlet! Everything about this was bloody creepy! The opening titles, the end credits like screencaps from Captain Scarlet snuff movies! It's impressively creepy! The theme is great with 7 memorable notes at the start. Dum-dum-dum-da-da-da-dum!
The Cheers theme. Nothing will replace Cheers in my heart as the all time best American sitcom. Nothing. The glory days of Friday night audience sitcoms on Channel 4. The theme is of course a banger.
The theme to The Golden Girls. Don't fight it. Just sing along. Banger! Terry Hughes went from directing The Two Ronnies to directing The Golden Girls. You'd want either on your comedy CV, both is just showing off!
The Hill Street Blues theme. A banger. If you're going to dance to this, let's be careful out there!
The theme to Tales Of The Unexpected. Another memorable Ron Grainer classic. It's a banger etc.
The theme to Shoestring! Banger! A series about a private detective with a radio show. Sounds random but it was very good. Trevor Eve quit after two series. So the production team came up with another show, Bergerac. That ran for 10 years.
The theme to Bergerac is a banger! The programme created because Trevor Eve didn't want to make another series of Shoestring. Arguably more successful and definitely better remembered than Shoestring.
The Blockbuster's theme is, as @ThatNeilMartin and others have reminded me, a banger! It makes the list!
The Dempsey and Makepeace theme is also a banger! Didn't miss an episode of this.
The theme to Rockcliffe's Babies was a banger! Starts as a nursery rhyme then turns into a supercharged nursery rhyme with more layers of musical greatness added each time! 👌
The theme to Juliet Bravo. Banger!
The theme to The Professionals is a banger! A. BANGER! Should have been one of the first on here! Thank you @gerainted for your timely intervention!
Tomorrow's World had 3 themes that were absolute bangers! The legendary jazzy theme that accompanied the letters by Johnny Dankworth, Richard Denton & Martin Cook's haunting theme that accompanied the 'brain' planet and Paul Hart's mid 80s to early 90s theme. Which is your fave?
I think we all agree that the famous Magnum theme is a banger! But the famous theme we all know was the second theme. How many of you can hum the first one? I know I can and think @Coops_tv probably can. Both are here.
The theme to Cheggers Plays Pop. Banger!
The theme to Hawaii Five-0. Banger.
The theme to The Fall Guy. Banger.
The Sweeney theme is a banger! I like how with three notes you can sing The Sweeney along to it. I also like how you get a powerful, adrenaline rush theme at the start, then a maudlin version of it at the end. It's a classic.
The Only Fools and Horses theme we all know is a banger! But just like Magnum, the 2nd one became the definitive one. The original is the only misstep I think Ronnie Hazelhurst made, he did arrange the music for the 2nd though. John Sullivan stepping in for Chas & Dave on vocals.
The theme to The A-Team. Banger! Another great theme from Mike Post and Pete Carpenter.
The theme to Big Deal, sung by Bobby G of Buck's Fizz. Banger! Thanks for the reminder @ChorleyRobbie
The theme to The Gentle Touch. Banger!
The theme to Boon. Banger!
The theme to VEGA$. One for @Coops_tv & @GregScottTV. A banger of a theme.
The Taxi theme is a banger! Took me several episodes to realise the reason why the titles had such a long drive was because the film was on a loop! Well I WAS only 6!
The first TJ Hooker theme is a banger! This montage of clips in the opening titles are next level!!
The second harder, rockier synth type TJ Hooker theme is also a banger!
Both versions of the Quincy theme are bangers!
The theme to Cannon. Banger!
The theme to McCloud. Banger!
The theme to The Streets Of San Francisco! This is a complete banger of a theme tune!
As @JonHollis9 rightly says, the Quantum Leap theme is a banger! Is the second version also a banger? You decide.
The theme to late 70s/early 80s series The Littlest Hobo that we all know and love is, as @bromley001 rightly points out, a banger! But did you know that the series started in the 60s? Here are both themes. The 80s theme wins.
The theme to late 70s private detective series Hazell is a banger! Still slightly surreal to know this series was co-created by Terry Venables. Yes. Terry. Venables.
The themes to Space 1999 are bangers! I like them both! Sorry, not sorry. Funny that Space 1999 seemed so futuristic in the 70s. Then 1999 came, nothing changed that much and I was still waiting 20 minutes for a flippin' bus! 🤷🏽‍♂️
The theme to Van Der Valk is a banger! A huge hit that got to number 1 in the UK. More memorable than the series?
The theme to Joe 90 is a banger!
The theme to kid's quiz Runaround with Mike Reid is a banger!
The theme to Minder is a banger! I remember this Top Of The Pops performance very well!
The theme to New Tricks is also a banger!
The theme to Auf Wiedersehen Pet is a banger! To all the people that kept saying it was great, this is for you!
The old BBC Election Night theme first used in 1979 is a banger! 1979 and 1992 are the best. From Rick Wakeman's The Myths and Legends of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. Some serious prog rock action going on here!
It's not Christmas but @docfilth rightly points out that the theme to The Box Of Delights is a banger!
The original World Of Sport theme is a banger! But this version is also a banger and is almost forgotten. Big, bold and full of brass instruments!
As @StuartMc1 and others have pointed out, the Knight Rider theme is a banger!
The Airwolf theme is also a banger!
I actually preferred Blue Thunder to Airwolf. That theme was a banger.
There were quite a few American series in the 70s and 80s that didn't last long but had great themes. Automan is one of them and the theme is a banger!
The theme to The Equaliser is a banger! Thanks to @The_Only_Doyle for the reminder! How did I forget to add this?
We had a supercar with Knight Rider, a super helicopter with Airwolf so of course series with a superbike was needed. That was Streethawk and the theme was another 80s synthesizerapalooza banger!
The theme to Roobarb was a banger! They only made one series in the 70s but it was so popular through repeats it was brought back, with Roobarb's feline rival Custard getting equal billing. One of several great Johnny Hawksworth tunes.
Man About The House theme. Banger! Started in 1973, same year as Summer Wine, Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads, Some Mothers & Ronnie Barker's Seven Of One which had the pilots of Porridge & Open All Hours. Johnny Hawksworth wrote this theme & Salute To Thames (ident tune).
Holiday mornings on BBC1 back in the late 70s/early 80s meant Kick Start, well Junior Kick Start. Street Hawk might have struggled on this motorbike course. The theme is another banger!
Thanks to @sherbetsaucers for the Kick Start reminder. That made me think of another holiday morning regular on BBC1 back in the day. The Red Hand Gang! The opening & closing themes are bangers! Two things most people mention about Red Hand Gang, the theme and James Bond III!!
The theme to Rapido is a banger!
All of the Swap Shop themes are bangers! Mike Batt's legendary funky original, the updated rockier version of the original and BA Robertson's theme for the final series.
The You and Me themes are bangers! My era was with the block opening titles and a green dragon. The updated theme by UB40 for the Cosmo & Dibs era is probably the one most people remember.
The theme to Sunday afternoon ITV political programme Weekend World is a banger!
That reminds me. The first and second Noel's House Party themes are bangers.
Speaking of Scooby Doo, the 'Scooby Doo, Where Are You!' theme is a banger! But just like Magnum and The Goodies, the theme everybody remembers wasn't there at the start. You'll see.
The Lenny Henry Show had two themes that were bangers! The first when it was a sketch comedy and the second when it became a Delbert Wilkins sitcom.
A reminder that Peter Howell's #DoctorWho theme, which sounds like it uses electric guitar but doesn't, is an absolute banger! https://twitter.com/CameronYardeJnr/status/1014663988683137025?s=19
A reminder that the Starsky & Hutch themes are absolute bangers! Four seasons, four themes....well 3 themes as one was tweaked. Anyway, you'll see! Here is the 1st one by Lalo Schifrin. Not as well remembered as one of his other TV themes. Something called Mission: Impossible.
Here's another banger of a Starsky & Hutch theme. This is the one I associate with the show the most.
Another banger of a Starsky & Hutch theme. I think this is for the third season? Some help guys @Coops_tv @BobbyRiversTV
And the final banger of a Starsky & Hutch theme. An updated version of the season 2 theme.
I am in shock! You know the Starsky & Hutch themes are bangers yes? Well I didn't know that it had a COMPLETELY different theme in France! @SFlinn67 brought this to my attention and now I'm shook!!! BRACE YOURSELVES!!! 😲😲😲
Oh hello!! After THAT French version of the Starsky & Hutch theme @JsPprter1966 has provided us with this. https://twitter.com/JsPprter1966/status/1167161391121412097?s=19
A reminder that the original theme to Play Your Cards Right is a banger! And each time it was updated it got a little bit worse. This is not open for debate, this is scientific fact proven by me!
The theme to Bruce Forsyth And The Generation Game was a banger! As was the updated version for its 90s revival.
The theme to Larry Grayson's Generation Game is a partial banger. Had to include it as this is The Generation Game I remember most from childhood.
On a bit of a quiz show theme run and the theme to Bob's Full House is an absolute banger!
The theme to Challenge Anneka is a banger!
My regular reminder during these banging TV themes, that the original Emmerdale theme and The Six Million Dollar Man theme are one and the same....kind of!
The theme to Bruce Forsyth's 90s quiz Takeover Bid is a banger! With this one Bruce raps!
The theme to Bullseye was a banger.....eventually!
As mentioned numerous times, but ridiculously not added to this list sooner, the Double Deckers theme is a banger! Four things.
1. Kid on the back row in the red shirt has no rhythm.
2. Yes that IS a pre-Spooks Peter Firth!
3. Yes that IS a pre-Aswad Brinsley Forde!
4. ENJOY!
The theme to The Paul Daniels Magic Show is a banger! You'll like it, not a lot, but you'll like it!
The theme to legendary Children's ITV gameshow Knightmare is a banger! For the kids watching, it was a mixture of Dungeons & Dragons, roleplay and virtual reality.
The theme to obscure cult cartoon Mr Rossi is a banger! I know nothing about this cartoon, never made it through an episode and always switched over after the theme tune. But it was always on Children's ITV back in the 80s.
The theme to Doctor Snuggles is a banger!
As @Nelsonrow80 rightly pointed out, the theme to The Family-Ness is a banger!
WAIT! WHAT!? There was another Doctor Snuggles theme!?! 😲 @TygerWhoCame2T my mind is blown!! https://twitter.com/TygerWhoCame2T/status/1169015084175286275?s=19

The theme to Mary, Mungo & Midge is a banger!
The TISWAS theme is a banger! THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT!
The theme to The Man From U.N.C.L.E. is a banger! Several versions but these two are my favourites, with the first being the best of them all!
As @TheBoot__ has pointed out. The Miami Vice theme is a banger!
Talking of cop shows. I can't believe I didn't add the Cagney & Lacey theme to this list sooner! It is indeed a banger! Not the theme it started out with or the Chris Cagney either.
CRIKEY! How did I not add the Moonlighting theme to this list sooner!?! As @ralpheboy reminded me, this theme is a banger! Kids, I can't explain to you how cool this programme was when it started! You had to be there!
Well done @thierryattard for reminding me about the theme to the short-lived Murphy's Law starring George Segal. Another banger of a theme by Al Jarreau. This was late night ITV many years ago. Remember this one @Coops_tv @BobbyRiversTV?
