Bored and tired of work, so a short story maybe?

If you have a traveler profile with an agency and you are a doctor (albeit a retired one like myself), remember to tell them not to include your occupation on your flight details. Why? 👇👇
I remember this funny not so funny incident that happened to me on a @RAM_Maroc flight from Nigeria to Casablanca.

I had a long night working and even though I hated sleeping on flights, I looked forward to it this time around.
So I made my seat very comfortable and slept a good 4 hours (that's a lot if you know me). Woke up and normally I would read (everyone carries a book when flying yes?), but I decided to see a Bruce Lee movie instead (another big deal for me as I'm not necessarily into movies)
Headphones? Check.
Window covers? Down.
Air vents? Positioned to give me the best air flow.
Chips in hand, I excitedly clicked on play movie, but just as I was settling into his odd screams, I heard what sounded like my name but with a Dr prefix over the speakers
At first I was confused, then scared, then in denial in no particular order really as all 3 emotions took turns with my cowardly heart.

For what seemed like forever but was only a few seconds, I saw the hostesses walking towards me and I was sure they were coming for me
I started telling myself to be calm, I didn't do anything wrong, and for sure I didn't have any reason to be in trouble. All eyes were now on the hostess and which seat she will stop at, and it ended up to be mine.
AH: "hi sir, are you Dr Ugo?"

Me: "well that's my father but yes some people call me that (did I just throw my father under the bus? Hmm)

AH:" well sir, we have an in flight emergency and we need your help so if you could follow me please"
Me (in my head) why didn't she think I was a PhD, what if I told her I was a PhD doctor in horticulture and had no idea what to do with humans?

I went along with her anyway, while thinking to myself how it was possible & odd that I was the only medical practitioner on the flight
Well this is a short story right?

So she took me to this middle aged lady, breathing raggedly, or barely so, pale+++, with a bad headache & chest pain (as she said) and an abnormal pulse.

On first look I thought, now we are all dead for sure, hope this wasn't communicable?
Thankfully and to my glee there was another doctor who joined me on the walk up to the front where the emergency was seated.

We got to her, asked what happened, she couldn't talk as she could barely breath, she had taken some red wine in flight, a known diabetic too
Asked for gloves and a mask (because I ain't about to become a quarantined hero), and BP, pulse oximeter and blood glucose monitors, which we thankfully found at some point.

BP was 250/130, blood glucose levels of 260 or so, and pulse oximeter reading of less than 90%
I asked for oxygen, luckily they had a portable one which was administered, while we announced for passengers to go back to their seats (because trust us Nigerians to gather around curious cases) and for those that had antihypertensive meds to line up.
Come to think of it, that was sort of funny, cos they did, and we were both checking out which was fast acting and still compatible with her own antidiabetic meds.

We got the drugs, gave them to her, and monitored her for the rest of the flight ( we were 2 hours away)
Luckily for us (haha), she started breathing better, looked less pale, pulse oximeter readings went up, blood glucose levels went down, BP came down. We wrote up the case and all the things we did for her, got the air officials to have an ambulance waiting at Casablanca
And on landing, transferred her to the ambulance and went to catch our connect.

Shows how much one's life can go from zero to at least a 💯, cos one min you are appreciating the legend of Bruce Lee, and the next you are counting on the Samaritan act to save you from litigation
All in all, think that's my most exciting in flight experience ever, and I at least expected an email from @RAM_Maroc letting me know I had assess to the VIP lounge anytime I Chose to fly with them 😅😅🤣, or at least upgraded me for the next flight 😆. Still thankful anyways
And of cos, now I make sure I cross check with my booking agency before any flight is booked as I take my retirement from active clinical practice very seriously 😅

So what about you, what's your most exciting or memorable in flight experience?
