Bible Study: discussion thread on 3 themes presented in the Book of Johan that have become less preached about, but are important in relation to teachings and actions discussed in the Gospels, Acts, the Epistles, and Revelation.
Many people preach on Johan as it relates to the Messiah being in the Tomb for 3 Days, and some preach about how we should not run from our Father in Heaven when He gives us a task. These both are important, but there are other themes that parallel messages of the Messiah.
Before we look at some themes, the next three messages are references to three locations that Johan is directly mentioned by the Messiah in the Gospels of Matthew and Mark. The information is presented in English Greek Interlinear format to see the biblical Koine Greek text
The first reference to Johan in the Gospels is Matthew 12:38-41 when the Messiah speaks of Johan and the sign of Johan
The second location that Johan is referenced in the Gospels is Matthew 16:1-4 when the Messiah once again talks of Johan and the sign of Johan
The third location in the Gospels that Johan is discussed is in Luke 11:29-32, which is a retelling of an event from the Gospel of Matthew when the Messiah speaks of Johan and the sign of Johan
The word Sign in biblical Greek is the word Semeion, given the biblical dictionary number G4592 in the Strongs Bible Dictionary, and comes from word G4591. For reference the Thayer Bible Dictionary entry is also included. Semeion is a sign, mark, seal, miracles, or divine event
The Book of Johan itself is short, a total of 4 chapters comprised of 48 verses. It is a fairly quick read compared to other books of the Bible, and you are encouraged to read it or reread it with Prayer to our Father in Heaven while thinking about the next details
First theme found in Johan: Our Father Wants to Save All People Regardless of What Tribe They Came From. We can find verses to support that all through the Holy Scriptures, but it is a major theme in the Book of Johan.
The primary mission that our Father gives Jonah shows the interest the Almighty has in a group of pagan people. The Assyrians of Nineveh worshiped other deities, and became physical enemies of the children of the Twelve Tribes at that time. Nevertheless, He gives them a choice
The Messiah came first to speak to the children of Israel, His Flock, but we know he also spoke of other sheep that were to be brought into His Sheep fold, those being the gentiles. The Messiah reiterated what the Father basically wants, all are welcomed and wanted by our Father
Second theme found in Johan: All Humans are Accountable to the Almighty Regardless of if They are Israel or Gentile and Will Be Judged Appropriately. The Nineveh people were pagans, doing wicked acts, and our Father in Heaven was unhappy with them and warned them to repent
The people of Nineveh were not Israel, they were not under the specific Mosaic Covenant, yet our Father in Heaven warned the pagans to repent or they would be punished. Yet, how could our Father justify punishment if Nineveh were not under the Law? Think about this for a moment.
The people of Nineveh somehow knew they were doing wrong, willfully acting that way, and our Father in Heaven warned them through Johan that they needed to repent, and thankfully they did.
So even though Nineveh was not under the Mosaic Covenant, our Father in Heaven felt justified in destroying them if they did not turn from wickedness. Our Father is Just, so this means the judgement of punishment would also be Just because the gentiles knew they were being wicked
Third theme found in Johan: All Humans Can Change Regardless of Their Tribal Background. The word of our Father has the power to change the hearts and minds of people regardless of their previous environment or upbringing, HalleluYah
Just as with the first theme, we can locate verses all through the Holy Scriptures of gentiles being welcomed as worshipers of our Father the Almighty, and this is not just after the Messiah Resurrected. Example, Jethro, Moses Father in Law, was a former pagan priest.
Everyone has the ability to change their ways, it does not matter what genetic tribe they come from. When they do by turning to worship our Father, obeying His Commands, and accept His only begotten Son as the Messiah, they enter the sheep fold and become one flock
Make time to read the Book of Johan, pray to our Father as you read it, and think about the messages from the Messiah and the Disciples in relation to each of these themes discussed in this thread. Understanding these themes is key to understanding some of the Gospel Messages
