Okay everyone, I am here once again to talk about the color purple in tokusatsu
Purple is usually a color not associated with main/primary characters (heroes).
In super sentai in particular, I don't think there's been a purple ranger who's part of the main five (correct me if i'm wrong please--but at any rate it's rare)
in super sentai at best, purple rangers are auxilliary members (outside the main 5)
I was gonna say story spoilers with this remini but i'll talk about that when i'm done reading. anyway.
In general, we jokingly consider purple a red flag-- it's usually a color used in tokusatsu when something isn't Right.
Characters who are coded purple are usually villains (who may or may not turn into allies), outright villains (who may or may not side the heroes at some point)
--or you know, just edgy antiheroes in general. I could name SEVERAL examples but I don't have character space

With regards to power ups too, purple is usually regarded a red flag as well--something that has a big price to pay for in exchange
from what we know, akira is a big fan of tokusatsu (kamen rider especially, judging from all the references, to which this mostly applies to), so I'm 500% sure he is aware of this when he made madara ryuusei purple.
from what we know so far (not including this remini story), madara in fact chose the color purple for himself
he does not consider himself a hero at all, and in fact considers himself more of a villain
he does shady things, and all that for the sake of the heroes, while also slowly beginning to work more together with them, even though he kind of rejects the thought that he could

isn't that interesting
this is exactly the type of trope/arc you'd find in tokusatsu, by the way

in conclusion: fuck you akir
I TOTALLY MISWORDED THIS. I MEANT VILLAINS OR HEROES WHO DEFECT SIDES https://twitter.com/seiginoakashi/status/1112307862900899841
please listen. the defecting sides and deceiving comrades thing is important too because..... shinsengumi
OK CORRECTION: as far as we know, madara didn't Choose the color purple. but he in fact did not choose red still
should i talk about how important red is.

red is not only the color of the leader, but is the only color that is CONSISTENT throughout all seasons of super sentai alright
like all other colors shuffle around sometimes, but red never leaves. it's like the very iconic symbol of the series in a way
