So apparently some people don’t know the story of how @kristyh_128 @ashleysername and I tried and failed, though not completely, to meet the Phelps twins.
So, I’m excited to make that a thread sometime today.
I promise to spellcheck this one because it should be my viral thread.
Alright friends, it’s happening.
Gather my children and you shall hear of a ridiculous story of magical misadventures.
Now, if you know anything about me, you will now my love for Harry Potter runs deep. It has brought me so much joy and the final book came out the summer before my senior year in high school. I followed these characters until the very end.
I am a Ravenclaw through and through.
I have befriended many houses over the years and we bleed our house colors. I have happily knit things for each house and proudly wear my BLUE AND BRONZE scarf made with love and care.
Like many HP fans, I have issues with the movies, but the casting I have always loved. Like others I have found a richness int he characters that surrounded the trio. I would love to spend days at The Burrow and meeting the whole Weasley clan.
Now, because of who I am as a person, you must understand that the Weasley Twins were two of my favorite characters. They were the perfect blend of chaos and humor that gave me a smile.
So when my friends and I found out that James and Oliver Phelps were going to be at the Harry Potter exhibit in New York, we naturally Accio’d tickets and were in a state of euphoria to get to see the exhibit and two of our favorite Weasleys.
Now, we had put a lot of planning into this. We obsessed over the schedule and times out train and running to the perfect point. We would get there early and wait in the line. They did not sell additional tickets to this meet & greet/autograph event.
We’re thrilled and the three of us get on the train and are continuing our excitement and plans for the rest of the day in the city.
We get there and our hearts sink. The family in front of us are arguing with someone at the door.
Now keep in mind we are probably a minimum of an hour early to the lineup. Maybe an hour and a half, but a minimum 60 minutes. Why is there an argument? They have a cutoff.
What they never posted:
-they changed the time
-they had a cutoff
-they were going to have a separate line early
-you would now need a wristband
So why are we so angry? None of this was on the site. They time they changed to was like two hours before we even got there. We could have changed our plans. They told us there wasn’t going to be an early lineup and they never changed the time.
This guys is half apologizing but trying to tell us it had been updated on the site. If they had, it must have been that morning because I know we had gone on the website the day before to confirm the address.
All the people who planned ahead never got an update or notification. The family in front of us had come from Ohio to see the exhibit and planned their visit for the meet and greet instead of a different weekend. The family behind us were from Tennessee if I remember correctly.
Naturally, we are devastated. We had planned all around this and if we had been a train ride or two earlier, we wouldn’t have missed it. We are bummed the hell out. We walk inside, still happy to see the exhibit, but the sting of missing out of the meet was too fresh.
We get inside and need to pee. After all, we had downed drinks on the train and bypassed the bathrooms until we arrived at our destination.
We trot down the stairs still a little forlorn. Use the nice clean lavatory and then look over the info guide.
There’s a lot of movement around us because similar to a lot of places there is a staff entrance and all that good stuff on the other side of the bathrooms. I’m backing up toward the wall and bump into someone and immediately turn to apologize.
“I’m so sorry!” And my head goes back down to the info guide.
*blink*
My head shoots back up and I see a little smile from the guy I bumped into...standing next to his brother.
Accurate representation of my face:
Now, I turned into a slight cartoon here. I’m standing still while flailing my right arm into the area where my friends are standing trying to get their attention.
I smack my friend Kristy while Ashley looks up confused. I cannot be totally sure, but I think I started shaking one of them.
“IT’S THEM!” My voice was probably the mix between a hiss and awe.
side bar: Do snakes ever sound surprised? I’m not fluent in Parseltongue, so I cannot be sure.
Both now turn and their gaze hits the Phelps twins who are actually laughing and give a little wave as they go up the escalator.
While not a traditional meet and greet, we did get one and even made them laugh.
People around us finally caught on to what I was saying and were straining their camera phones to try to get a shot. Because that’s what normal people do instead of standing dumbstruck.
This is a day that will indeed live in our memory. The disappointment of not getting to officially meet them lives on, but I basically fell into the brothers and we all made them laugh. We take our little victories where we can find them.
The End.

I sincerely hope this made you all laugh.

We still tell this story, though usually all three of us tell it together so if I missed something I know they will jump in.
