I wanted to figure out why tf Seesaw hits me so hard. Like more than most Bangtan songs. so I worked out that it's because there's a dominant 9th chord written sort of as a cluster chord played throughout. There's also use of 7th chords. I've always felt like 7ths and 9ths+
were some of the most emotive chords, and then you throw a cluster in there and it's like the way person feels when they've dropped from a high place suddenly. Adding to that is stepwise motion in the bass, which builds the anticipation and begins again every four bars. I've +
seen 7th chords described as a way to add soulfulness, and meanwhile the 9th gives the song a sort of heaviness to it, which is musical painting in terms of the lyrics. I think I'm going to spend the rest of my life undoing what music school did to me, but a song like Seesaw+
shows that music doesn't necessarily have to be "complicated" to be a masterpiece (although 9th and 7th chords are pretty tricky!) And that even four chords can hit someone hard.
Anyway, that's my music theory rant of the day.

Love ya @BTS_twt and all the Seesaw collaborators 💜
