Midnight Thread - I learned today what the most important tool family doctors have in their toolbox to transform the system are #patientstories. Patient stories may be n =1 case studies of system failures but each them uniquely highlight gaps and deficiencies in our system. 1/5
Its mind boggling how often these stories are dismissed being told “well that was an exceptional circumstance”. I have seen far too many of these “exceptional circumstances” in my short career and I am convinced #patientstories are key to transforming healthcare 2/5
We don’t need more pilot projects, we don’t need more steering committees, we don’t need more proposals. We need those decision makers who control funding to listen and partner with family doctors. We don’t need people to try and “engage” with primary care. We're waiting.. 3/5
Complex disease management programs, palliative care programs, coordinated home care programs don’t need family doctors to “get on board with their programs”. Family doctors are on board. We need these programs to realize that they need to integrate with us, not us with them. 4/5
