quick tips if you’re ever in a dangerous situation of some sort and someone gets badly injured:
-if they’re bleeding, press down hard on it. use a piece of cloth to help block the flow, and don’t try to take it off once bleeding starts. do NOT weaken your force.
-if the blood flows through that piece of cloth, get another. keep layering it until the blood flow stops.
-if they’re bleeding on their arm, elevate it over their head. the blood flow will take longer to reach that part if it’s raised, which will give it time for it to start clotting.
-if the blood flow won’t stop, make a torniquete. this is ONLY if the flow can’t be stopped.
that is a last resort, and usually means amputation will occur. PLEASE only do it in dire situations where you need to choose if you’re willing to lose a limb or a life. there are videos and articles online on how to make one in dangerous situations, and DONT attempt on a person.
-if they start going into shock, make sure they lay down and elevate the legs 8-12 inches above the ground. be calm, be reassuring, and make sure you’re there for them.
know the major artery point. the ones i can name off the top of my head are the wrist under the thumb, the inside of your elbow (aligned with your pinkie), your ankle, the neck, the genital region, vein under your forehead, under your jaw, behind the knee.
i say this because when they’re injured and bleeding, always stop the flow at the closest pressure point/main artery to limit flow of blood if you need to make a tourniquet.
