Just to check I'm following the story, the new working class/BME reviewer is the white guy in the bow tie stood next to the candelabra?
Looks like Chortle's new reviewer used to be a comedian himself. It's good to hear viewpoints that aren't currently overrepresented in comedy.
This incident happens 2-3 minutes later in the same 6 minute set. I can't understand why they'd upload it, but I'm really glad they did.
boyles' reviews have been subject to much discussion this year. especially this one, which reads as though he is docking stars from a review due to its feminist/lgbt content.
whereas when a show appeals to his personal demographic he makes no bones about declaring his excitement.
(obvs i am in no way suggesting mciver doesnt deserve this star rating. hes a good comic / kind man / not the subject of this tweet)

tbh i think boyles should be celebrated for acknowledging his personal background and situation directly affects his capacity to offer objective criticism. an acknowledgement of ones own biases which helps pave the way for more convos about representation in arts journalism.
