Thread of counters to common arguments against LGBT in Southeast Asia, so that I can just copy paste instead of repeating myself. If anyone can think of more, I'll add it in.

"LBT budaya barat, tak sesuai dengan budaya kita"

This is the main one. I would've done my own thread on the topic but there already exist two fantastic threads here https://twitter.com/wilde_dorian/status/976559365179162624?ref_src=twcamp%5Ecopy%7Ctwsrc%5Eandroid%7Ctwgr%5Ecopy%7Ctwcon%5E7090%7Ctwterm%5E3
And here's another which deals more with Indonesian cultures. If you're against LGBT because of religion, that's your right. But don't ever say LGBT is not our culture because that's not a matter of opinion https://twitter.com/afiqmnoor/status/1050360881102483456?ref_src=twcamp%5Ecopy%7Ctwsrc%5Eandroid%7Ctwgr%5Ecopy%7Ctwcon%5E7090%7Ctwterm%5E3
"Tiada agama yang benarkan LGBT"

Yeah if you're only looking at Abrahamanic faiths. Among the religions of the world, most are either accepting of LGBT or at least tolerant enough that they don't mention it at all

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Religion_and_LGBT_people
In religions which make no mention of LGBT, you might assume that means it wasn't accepted by society. Wrong again. Daoism doesn't have any scripture for or against LGBT, but the Chinese of old had no problems with gays, gay sex, or crossdressing

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_China
"LGBT salah di sisi Islam"

Modern interpretations aside, if LGBT is a sin that makes it no different from other sins we all commit daily. Its not on par with murder or theft. There are far worse sins than being LGBT. And besides, we're not a theocracy. Religious rules aren't law
"LGBT adalah pilihan gaya hidup"

A person born LGBT didn't make that choice. Many of them tried to be what you consider a "normal" straight person. Many hate themselves for being different. Do you honestly think people choose to be LGBT in an environment that hates them?
"Kami tak bantah tapi tak boleh promote"

Nobody can 'promote' LGBT. It can't be spread. Just like you can't make a gay man straight, you can't make a straight man gay. Think about it. LGBT see straight couples everyday. Does it make them straight? Obviously not. Logic
"Penyambung USB tak dapat berfungsi tanpa bahagian jantan & betina"

That means straight couples shouldn't have oral or anal sex either. In fact, maybe you shouldn't kiss or caress either. Sounds boring. You must be terrible in bed. How people get intimate isn't your business
"LGBT gila seks dan terlalu ikut nafsu"

There are LGBT who believe in chastity. There are actually gays who abstain from penetrative sex. Your fixation with what they do in bed tells me that LGBT aren't the ones obsessed with sex
"Sebab LGBT kami akan dilanda musibah"

Kisah Nabi Lut is used to demonstrate homosexuality as the most heinous sin, the one that makes God strike down a whole city. But Sodom & Gomorrah didn't fall just because of homosexuality. These were cities full of corruption and greed
Also why the emphasis on just Kaum Lut? Remember that God also punished the people of Nabi Noh among others. If we're going to focus on which is the worse sin, corruption harms far more people than gays having consensual sex ever will

And if you think those earlier civilisations somehow paid the price through being colonised or something, what do you have to say about the modern countries which legalised gay marriage or have positive attitudes towards LGBT? They seem to be doing fine

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGBT_rights_by_country_or_territory
"Tiada diskriminasi terhadap LGBT"

There are cases of LGBT bullied, beaten up or even killed. If no discrimination exists, why was Numan Afifi forced to step down?
"LGBT penyumbang utama HIV & AIDS"

There are a number of reasons for this, like a lack of access to medical care due to the stigma, and also cases of being forced into sex work because discrimination prevents them from getting any other job
Being gay or having gay sex can't give you HIV if neither person is HIV positive. A straight man with many sexual partners is also at a higher risk of contracting HIV. Lesbians have an even lower chance of contracting HIV than straight married couples
"LGBT sokong pedophilia"

It's funny that Malaysian homophobes have picked this up, because in Malaysia it's mostly straight right-wing men who support child marriage. Pas fights tooth and nail for child marriage. The vast majority of LGBT are against it https://m.malaysiakini.com/news/435873
"Baik kalau LGBT keluar islam"

Isn't the Islamic attitude supposed to be hoping sinners repent, rather than telling them to leave the religion? Many LGBT have left Islam due to the homophobia, but many remain faithful even in the face of your hatred

"Kalau LGBT tak puas hati, mereka boleh keluar negara je la"

From our earliest history right up until the mid-20th century, LGBT were considered normal in Malaysia. It's part of Malay culture. If you have a problem with it now, shouldn't it be you who leaves the country?
"Saya suka yaoi tapi tak sokong LGBT"

This one's for the anime/manga fans. This type of hypocrisy is typical in our modern style-over-substance practice of religion. If being gay is a sin, getting off to fetishized (and usually pornographic) gay stories is surely also a sin
"Ahli psikologi kata LGBT satu penyakit mental"

Yeah they did, in the 1800s when homosexuality was first studied by psychologists. In the 1950s, homosexuality was listed as a mental disorder. Science has advanced since then, and it was dropped in the 1980s. You're outdated
Some argue that later psychologists were biased, reflecting the more widespread acceptance of LGBT in society. But the bias was among the earlier researchers who were influenced by the Judeo-Christian view of homosexuality as a sin

https://psychology.ucdavis.edu/rainbow/html/facts_mental_health.html
The fields of psychology, psychiatry and medicine are meant to be dispassionate, objective and non-judgemental. Free from the influence of religion or societal taboos. Even when LGBT was regarded as "wrong" by western researchers, evidence existed that gays weren't mentally ill
"Selepas LGBT, apa lagi? Seks dengan budak? Haiwan?"

We can draw the line by defining what's acceptable (not necessarily moral) as sex between consenting adults. Children and animals can't consent, so it would be considered rape or abuse.

Two grown men ≠ man + boy/dog
"Jika seks sesama jenis diiktiraf atas asas hak asasi, maka seks sesama mahram juga nanti akan diiktiraf atas asas yang sama"

Homosexuality is an orientation, an enduring pattern of attraction to a certain gender. Incest is just sexual/romantic relations with a family member
For those having trouble wrapping your head around what's a sexual orientation, let me put it this way. If you're consistently attracted to one gender (not just an individual), that's an enduring pattern. If you're sexually attracted to your sister, that's not a pattern
"Kalau semua jadi gay, Tak berkembang la keturunan"

The LGBT community makes up a small percentage of the global population. Even in countries which legalise gay marriages, the LGBT population remains small. As previously stated, a person can't "become" gay by choice
Gays in some cases will claim to be straight to avoid discrimination, so at times it may only appear that the LGBT population is increasing. Fear tactics of the community rapidly growing like a plague are entirely fabricated, as explained here https://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/category/opinion/2018/11/12/lets-do-the-math-on-gays-in-malaysia/
