Inspired by @charliehacking's wonderful #PoemADay tweets, I'm planning to share a #PicturebookADay with @Deer_Class this half-term (it may well fizzle out by Wednesday!). First up, The Man Who Walked Between The Towers by Mordicai Gerstein. Fantastic artwork, poignant ending.
Today's #PicturebookADay, Gorilla, written and illustrated by Anthony Browne.

'He did love her really, he was just stressed and worried about things.'
We thoroughly enjoyed reading Wolves by Emily Gravett this morning, and were particularly amused by the alternative ending. #PicturebookADay

'There's load of little bonus things like letters and library tickets. It's really clever.'
Complete change of direction today, we went for Traction Man Is Here by Mini Grey @Bonzetta1 as our #PicturebookADay. One of my absolute favourites to read aloud, full of great jokes and opportunities for melodramatic voices. Oh, and we made it past Wednesday.
Angry Arthur by Satoshi Kitamura and Hiawyn Oram was our #PicturebookADay for today.

Once there was a boy called Arthur, who wanted to stay up and watch TV, but his mother wouldn’t let him. “I’ll get angry,” said Arthur, and he did. Very, very angry...
This afternoon we looked at Rules of Summer by Shaun Tan. #PicturebookADay

'There's so many things to look at in the pictures, there's not that much writing but the illustrations have loads of detail. It's a book we really need to think about, isn't it?'
We enjoyed sharing Town Is By The Sea today. Working at a school in a coastal village, I find this book always resonates with the children and leads to conversations about expectations. Gentle and slightly melancholy. #PicturebookADay
Handed over the reins of our #PicturebookADay to one of the pupils today. She gave an inspiring, passionate and heart-warming telling of wordless book A Stone For Sascha by Aaron Becker, leaving the rest of the class absolutely stunned. It was special. @storybreathing
Went off track slightly today, we shared lots of wordless picturebooks for our #PicturebookADay. Great to see the class discussing how the stories are constructed and how they would tell them.
We studied If by author David J Smith and illustrator Steve Adams in our maths lesson today. Fantastic for introducing different ways to represent and display large numbers. #PicturebookADay
Dipped into the wonderful Archie's War by Marcia Williams as part of our topic work this afternoon. Great for giving a different perspective on some of the events of WW1. Interactive, full of information and highly engaging. #PicturebookADay
A small group of pupils enjoyed practising and performing Fruits by Valerie Bloom and David Axtell at the end of our afternoon session today. It's such a vibrant and energetic poem to share. #PicturebookADay
We were all amazed by the stunning artwork in this book from the Fan brothers this afternoon. Reading it led to much discussion about families and the relationships that define them. #PicturebookADay
A few of our Year 6 pupils enjoyed reading The Elephant That Ate The Night by Bing Bai and Yuanyuan Shen to a group of younger children this afternoon. A reassuring and engaging story about coping with a fear of the dark. #PicturebookADay
We've read and shared several of Shinsuke Yoshitake's books in class but this is currently our favourite. A great opportunity to let imaginations run wild. #PicturebookADay
This afternoon we read A House That Once Was by Julie Fogliano and Lane Smith. I originally heard about it via @smithsmm and it's now become an absolute favourite. Can lead to some wonderful memories being shared about special and significant places. #PicturebookADay
This is a special book and one that I always love sharing. The class all thought that Shane was wonderful because he cared so much about the stray cat, and were genuinely surprised by the twist at the end. #PicturebookADay @EmpathyLabUK
So many wonderful Quentin Blake books to enjoy, but today we went for this fantastic collaboration with Russell Hoban. A pleasure to read, full of energy and a lot of fun. #PicturebookADay
Change of tone today, looking at this biography of the inspirational Ken Nedimyer, who's worked relentlessly to try and undo some of the damage currently being inflicted on our coral reefs. #PicturebookADay

'He really cares about nature, doesn't he? It's his whole life.'
Shared Badger's Parting Gifts by Susan Varley this afternoon. Never taught a class who haven't absolutely loved it, whatever their age. Beautiful, warm and totally charming. #PicturebookADay
Have a soft spot for this collection of 'reverso' poetry by Marilyn Singer and Josee Masse. Wonderful introduction to some of the Greek myths, retold in a very clever and enjoyable way. #PicturebookADay
Possibly one of the most inspiring picturebooks out there for KS2. The whole class were completely mesmerised by Emmanuel's journey across Ghana. Also a great film, narrated by Oprah Winfrey. #PicturebookADay
The twist gets 'em every time. Still one of my absolute favourite books to share, every child should have had the chance to enjoy Tadpole's Promise by the time they leave primary school. #PicturebookADay
