OK then. My first choice (in no particular order) is this really educational and thought provoking book about bringing up an intersex child and saying “no” to the scalpel urges of doctors who want to normalise the ‘problem’ away. This is about placing the child front and centre
Recommendation #2 is Susan Stryker’s book about US trans history. Read it alongside #TransBritain and you’re ready to do a comparative dissertation!
Next up: “Yes you are trans enough” is an honest and touching story about growing up trans and trying to transition when the muggles don’t “get it”. Great work by @OhMiaGod
Number 4 is this well-researched and professionally presented guide to modern best practice in treating trans people by @GenderBen. Read it and then give it to your local medical practice. God knows they probably need it!
Number 5 (in no order) is this cracking anthology by @Charlie_Craggs . If you want to understand the world of trans women just earwig in the advice we’ve written for our little sisters.
Number 6 is another must-read. Trans Like Me by @cnlester takes every tired trans trope and dismantles it with factual knowledge and impeccable logic
And finally, read an historical trans autobiography, such as Roberta Cowell’s (1954) or Jan Morris’s (1974). Read them with allowance for the periods they were written in.
OK. That’s it. Happy reading. Now I nominate @RozKaveney
