Today is the 25th death anniversary of Ameer Hamza Shinwari — the legendary sufi poet of Pashto language.

He is called the father of Ghazal in Pashto language.
One, out of many, popular ghazals of him is Raaza cha yawa jora ku jungara pa zangle ke, sung by singers like Qamar Gula, Mahjabeen Qazalbash and many others but my person favorite is the one sung by Master Rafiq Shinwari.

I can't help but to mention this ghazal of him sung by Ismail and Junaid band.

'I will travel with the brave and virile – I am a Pashtun; so with Pashtuns I go
Like the cresting sun of nationhood – With your teasing, joyful rays will I go'
اغیار وائ د دوزخ ژبه ده
زه به جنت ته د پښتو سره ځم

Outsiders say it is the language of Hell – But I; it’s to Heaven, with my Pashto, that I go.
In his home town Landi Kotal, an event was organised in his memory today.
I recommend the following three articles on Hamza Baba.
