Dear @GovernorTomWolf @PAHealthDept @alzassociation regarding Assisted Living, Personal Care, & Skilled Nursing. I've been on the inside of care facilities on a daily basis for years advocating for my elderly parents. Dementia patients are in great danger. Help me achieve CHANGE.
At Dad's nursing home, there's been an ongoing shortage of staff=> 30 long-term residents on the floor, the majority having dementia; one nurse and two caregivers per 8 hours; the nurse, consequently, is only available to a given resident for 16 minutes per 8 hours. UNACCEPTABLE.
@GovernorTomWolf @PAHealthDept @alzassociation the understaffing situation at Dad's nursing home is now a crisis. Just this week, on Dad's FLOOR, the weekend daytime nurse, the weekday daytime nurse, and the director of nursing have left, & other nurses have given their notices.
@GovernorTomWolf @PAHealthDept @alzassociation @RepBrendanBoyle Epic anger. The nursing home asked me why I have my dad there or why I would bring him back after hospital stays if I was so unhappy, knowing that no facility would take him now at his advanced stage of dementia.
@GovernorTomWolf @PAHealthDept @SecretaryLevine @RepBrianFitz @RepBrendanBoyle @alzassociation the COVID effect on AL, PC, & SNF is driven by the issues that have been costing lives for years, including unacceptable coverage ratios and staff that bring illnesses to the residents.

@GovernorTomWolf @PAHealthDept @SecretaryLevine @RepBrianFitz @RepBrendanBoyle @alzassociation And THIS was preventable and is a crime.
@CNN if you want to save lives, support taking action on the multiple recommendations I forwarded in writing to the PA Dept of Health (prior to the pandemic) on how to stop preventable deaths in nursing homes.
